Postby Bouncer » Mon Feb 11, 2008 9:14 pm

Just found the place, bear with me.

Flying with Blackwater ofIraq. these are the Medium birds.I've yet to get a flight on a Little Bird. This was an unplanned photo, and turned out better than expected. We were on our way to Ur.

Another pic from Iraq.. I could filter it with photoshop, but Ilike the layed smog llook in the winter early morning light. It's true to reality.

I get nervouse when the pilots start looking at the blinky light.

Thats a decent start I think.

good pics, bouncer, i've always wanted to go up in a helicopter.

i know this question will display an amazing amount of ignorance on my part, and i do have a glint of an answer already formed in my mind, but what is the structure in the second photo?

it's hard to believe you are still working in iraq after all this time. it seems like it's been forever. be well and stay safe.

I wouldn't worry about displaying ignorance Denise. I looked at that building every day for six months and still have no idea what it is.

edit: What is the most practical way to upload photos to the BFC as in the manner above?

Helicopters are fun, no doubt about it. Everytime Ifly I want to go spend 65K and get a commercial helo pilots license. :) Flying with Blackwater is more interesting than flying with the military. The BW guys like to fly low, fast and twisty, so buckle up or you will be hanging on for dear life like I was the first time I flew with those nutballs! :D

And Denise, you're not ignorant. Fun, neat, and crazy as a bedbug at times, but definately not ignorant.

It's the Grand Mosque in Baghdad. It's sometimes referred to\as the Ar Rahman Mosque. It was originally scheduled for completion in 2015, but when we took over the place, we put money into it and it was going to be finished this year instead. Unfortunately construction is stopped right now for some reason.

Believe me when I say it feels like forever at times. My first R&R in a very long time will be coming upin March. I'm going to spend about two weeks in the US, and probably a week in europe/lturkey/jordan before I come back here.

This is from the roof of teh Al-Faw Palace, HQ of MNF-I. The thing to note is that Saddam built most of his major palaces on or near water, since water is a sign of wealth inIraq. The lak has fish in it, and there are guys who go out in little boats to clean up the seaweed like stuff that grows in it. You will often see soldiers fishing these lakes, as well as TCNs who work on the bases. Because there are no natural predators, the fish get pretty big, like 3-4 ft big, no lie.

This is about 10 seconds after two car bombs tried to destroy a police building in western Baghdad.

Image

Perfume palace in Iraq. This place was either A) A palace for one of Saddams daughters, B) a palace where he kept 'girlfriends" or C) A combo of both. No one seems to know for sure. I like the pic because the baby geese and momma geese in the middle of a warzone are natures way of saying "Screw you crazy monkeys." in a very subtle but powerful way.

Not sure about the damage. Tell the truth, I just now noticed it as I uploaded the photos. My best guess would be looters though.
