Local fuel trucks. This is the main road between Basra and Kut, in 2003 it was still pretty safe and fuel trucks didn't need an escort - not sure what it's like there now

About an hour after I took this picture, the storm rolled ashore and I witnessed one of the heaviest and loudest downpours ever, all from the safety of my backpacker's hostel roof with tinnies at hand - a regular occurence during the wet season in Australia's jungly north - brilliant it was

Was the rain heavy enough to take a shower in? I took a few rain showers in Africa and I can say it is a really different kind of clean feeling.

Wow you can really see the Central Asian style of mineret, looks very similar to Khiva and Bukara's designs in Uzbekistan.

The silk road stuff is extremly unique.
