It is in Thailand (Hinayana), but how do you explain an entity like Yama in Tibetan Vajrayana? Tibetan Buddhism is more spiritual and accepts deities, ya spacker

Cheers

Oh come on, it's obviously a vestige of the bicameral mind.

Yup, the Thais call it Theravada, but the Mahayana (Greater Vehicle) Buddhists of Japan, China, Tibet call it "Hinayana" (Smaller Vehicle - lesser vehicle). They see the Theravada as deficient as those who follow this path are concerned with their own enlightenment solely - no Bodhisattvas (Buddhas to be) saving the greater flock from the Wheel of Life etc. "Hinayana" is seen as perjorative by Theraveda Buddhists. Also, strict Theravada is a bit too ascetic for most Tibetans, some monks enjoy a good swally and a pagga now and again.

Mahayana - collectivist
Hinayana - individualist

Actually, most Tibetan schools, including the Gelugpa and their Bodisattva of Compassion (the Dalai Lama - being the earthly embodiment of Chen Resig/Avalokiteshvara) follow three strands - Theravada/Mahayana/Vajrayana (Tantric), with a healthy dose of native folklore and Hindu mysticism thrown in for good measure.

Another day on MSR Tampa south from Baghdad, 10th June 2004. Aftermath of an IED? Dead insurgents? Probably, but I can't be sure. We just sped by as the first US humvees pulled up to secure the scene. Five minutes later we would have been parked up for at least two hours or so as the EOD teams came to mop up. As it happens I just managed to click off a couple of snaps at high speed before someone's death was just another rapidly fading vista in the rear view mirror. Not a bad pic considering I was driving with one hand at 80km/h.
