Pictures from Mongolia

Postby matt5058 » Sat Dec 06, 2008 8:28 pm

I am currently working on uploading a bunch of pics from the past six months onto my photobucket account to create a slideshow for my blog, which I will post up when I'm finished, but here's a few pictures from October. I had the pleasure of attending the Bayan Olgii Golden Eagle Festival, a very amazing experience to say the least.

I love those pics too. A trained owl? Cool. And I too was staring at those hats:)

Great pictures! Was that eagle going after the fur in her hood?

Well some of the eagles went after people wearing fur but in this particular instance...I think she was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, her coat may have had a bit to do with it though.

The hunters released a wolf onto the field and two eagles took it down.....and had it pinned so everyone in the crowd goes running towards the eagles and wolf, with multiple eagles circling above. She was in the crowd and one of the eagles dropped on her and took her down. It was pretty intense but she survived unscathed. A few kids got attacked too but they were running across the field where the eagle hunters were doing their routines.

Excellent pictures matt, seeing those eagles take down a wolf must've been one hell of a sight. Have you seen any wrestling yet, aside from the kids outside the internet cafe?

Thanks. Seeing the eagles take down the wolf was awesome...seeing the eagles take down kids was intense, haha.

I've seen a lot of wrestling since I've been in Mongolia. It's probably the biggest sport here. It's a different type of wrestling then I'm used to seeing in the U.S. They do a lot of wrestling during the 'Nadam' holiday and I've seen it at other celebrations, including weddings. I have quite a few pics of the wrestling, I will try and get them uploaded soon.
