Aah, I love tamarisks. I have several in my garden that flower at different times, plus what was supposed to be a little hedge, but a lorry knocked a dry-stone wall onto it. It's just showing signs of recovery.

In Spain or the UK ?

They are a real problem in watersheds here.

Don't worry, if it has any moisture it will come back. Do you have a xeriscape at your residence ?
Also, did you happen to read the link I included ?

I've had a look at the link now. Non-native and invasive. There's not enough water for it to be invasive here, I'd guess. The big one I have grows above the soak away for the septic tank - and very happily, as you can imagine.

xeriscape: new word for me. Not really, though that's how I should have done it. Everything I've planted that survives is salt, drought and wind tolerant, and I make pretty good compost now, which is helping. But I do have an automatic watering system, that I use, quite sparingly, from May to September. This year they had so much rain over the winter that all the wells were brimming, and there are fewer tourists than usual, so I don't have to worry. In dry - and crowded - years, I'm more careful. And I have two big rain water butts for watering by hand.

Here we are one year later, with different species of bird nests in the dead tallow trees. Mostly Ibis.

We got a pretty good kill. This is the area where the guys were walking through the water with the machetes.

Here is a park last week being cleared from a old homesite/cattle ranch in the south of Houston near Hobby Airport. Adjacent to one of the worse areas in the city. It is overgrown with Chinese Tallow and Japanese Ligustrum. The dark glossy green plant in the foreground.

We're using this Fecon mulcher on the the open areas.

Come on, now, anyone can see that the picture resembles a map, and that the stump resembles an island, especially with the color of the herbicide, in exactly the same way that the burnt pattern on my toast this morning was clearly an image of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
