Guns and Hiking in Kentucky

Postby projectalice » Sat May 02, 2009 3:28 pm

El Pelon and I showed some friends from out of town (really out of country) around yesterday. Of course there were guns involved. The pics turned out better than expected. We hiked around Natural Bridge State Park in Red River Gorge, at the foothills of Appalachia and ended the day plinking around at an outdoor shooting range.

Unless we are in a jungle in some far-off land at the time, that is.

Man is it nice to see leaves on the trees...We're not there yet up here. It's also nice to see the "laurel"...of course it's rhododendron, but everywhere in the mountains it's called laurel anyway, another thing I miss. I used to work in the heart of it right in the center of WNC, but those KY rock formations are cooler. Maybe even cooler than N. Arkansas. Karst. Gotta love it. I love the pics.

M-A: She likes Raven's Run more than I do. I spent virtually every weekend in the Gorge or at Natural Bridge when I was a kid. My grandparents lived pretty close (we are a long line of hillbillies you see) and we spent lots of time on the old family homestead and would go to NB to eat at the lodge every Sunday. After walking those trails all the time, Raven's Run just didn't have the pizazz.
Oh yeah, It seems to me you may still walk as close to the edge as possible in your attempt to scare people ;)

Woodsman: The rock formations in Red River Gorge are pretty cool and VERY popular with rock climbers. Lots of hootin' and hollerin' all weekend long from the cliff facings. It's nice to have that an hour from the house to get away from it all. It is getting more popular now though. The cabins are starting to show up. I fear it will look like Gatlinburg TN one of these days.

Most excellent.

Doubly most excellent. And great photos to boot.

haha, i think these days it's more like tryin' ta scare myself....but not consciously...

when i was a rebellious teen, we used to break into raven's run all the time, it wasn't open yet so we had to climb over the fence, somehow we managed to get a cooler full of beer over it...mom thought i was at the baptist church's choir practice....
