I saw a Mennonite fellow with his wife and child in a restaurant in Presidio and I thought about you.
He only barely nodded and didn't smile when I said hola.

Two of the toughest MFers I've ever met were a couple of Menno dudes from Chihuahua. One survived a shootout with Mexican authorities and the other one is insane.

He had Chihuahua plates on his F-250 4x4. He looked and was dressed like a farmer.

Probably not a drug smuggler but it's possible. They discovered that wheat is very hard to grow in the desert and now they are eye-deep into the narcotics game.

The Russians are a natural affiliation for them but mostly they do business with biker gangs.

Presidio - awesome.

Is Chinati hot springs still open to the public or did that place go private?

I have never had a huge desire to see TX, but the Big Bend and Alpine areas interest me a great deal. Does look like parts of eastern WA with the big basalt cliffs marching off in the distance. The Rio Grande has fallen on hard times ... I remember seeing it in NM and that bit was basically a huge dry river bed - like the riverbed in Alice Springs. I'd like to visit Austin sometime though.

Thanks for the fotos....another amazing American landscape.
