Fantastic. Thank you.

"My, how you've grown!" is the appropriate reaction I think.

Can't quite see our house, as it looks as if it's surrounded by trees now. If you go up the road going to the ridge above the town on the right, the big house with the red roof next to the road at the top of the ridge is, I'd guess, where the other English teachers lived. Mr P and I had a tiny three-room house in that green patch just beyond it, that grey dot perhaps, with a fantastic view over the valley to the right. None of the houses in the cloud beyond existed.

And the guerrillas who broke out of San Carlos Prison when we were there hung out in the mountains behind the camera and to the right.

What's that huge new red-roofed excrescence on the inside of the bend in the road, rdkll? Do you know?

Are they treating you well?

must be one of these new malls :)

and yes i get treated very well. but you should check the beeb for news on vzla. the new decree could affect my travel plans. i´ve spent my last bolivares on rum and i´m waiting what´s going to happen.

best indicator for impending troubles are the chinese supermarkets . they are always open, but if they stay closed i´m considering going to colombia. i guess it takes a month or two until the general populations feels the impact of the devaluation. so far everything is calm.

btw i´m back in Merida and have found the best arepas and maduros in the country. arepas belen, at the plaza belen. yummy
no more hallacas please ;)

Aren't the shops empty yet?

After some really vile hallacas, and then years of turning them down as politely as possible, we were offered some home-made ones in a way we couldn't refuse a couple of years ago - and they were really good. It is a hazard of being there around Christmas.

today is the first working day of the year and i noticed some shops didn´t bother to open. the chinos are working as always. some goods are already more expensive.

i only had home made hallacas, i was even allowed to help making some . and i quite like it . but after days and days of hallacas and pan de jamon , i´ve had enough. for a long time.

It's the damp slimy pastry I have trouble with. The insides are always good.

Take care in Cúcuta if you go. Only time I've ever been robbed in the street was there, first time in Colombia, within about twenty minutes of arriving. Nothing serious, but it was a good lesson.

I've no idea. You'd have to ask what's left of the Barí people.

I've never stayed there long enough to find out. It's the sort of place you pass through on the way to somewhere else.
