Some Pictures from Kenya

I got a chance to spend a couple of weeks traveling in Kenya in August. I took a couple thousand pictures but here's a few of my favorites, in sepia tone to make them look more artsy fartsy. I am still trying to find time to go through the rest of them but yeah, it was a pretty cool trip, my first time in Africa.

Nice, I enjoyed them. You get most dangerous DP award for getting in a matatu.

Did you get any of the garishwooden kiosk type shops or the hilarious one room hotels?

Thanks guys.

Rickshaw, didn't actually get to check out the Octopus. We only spent maybe one or two nights there and were hanging out with some volunteers and ngo workers that my friend/guide knew.

Matatus were pretty crazy but not any more ridiculous or dangerous than mikr rides in Mongolia.

I did see quite a few of those hotels and the kiosk shops, will have to look through my pics to see if I got any though.

Having seen both I think the combo of heavy traffic, fast roads and a certain Kenyan je ne sais quoi tip the death balance in favour of the matatu. I've seen one too many aftermath moments to contemplate getting into one.

What I do when travelling by matatu is I sit in one of the middle rows and wedge myself in between a couple of fat people. I then thank fuck for pot holes that force the driver to drive only medium fast and revert back to being a Roman Catholic on the off chance this whole God thing is true. Works a treat.

Good luck on finding 2 fat Kenyans on every matatu. What I do is stick a hire car on plastic and drive like a fucking maniac, when in Rome.
