Graffiti - Art or Eyesore?

Postby stealth1 » Fri Apr 26, 2013 11:48 pm

Graffiti or urban art as some call it, is spreading like an epidemic across Bangkok. A couple of months ago on a walk from my home to The Mall Bangkapi, I noticed a subtle change in the scenery. There were tags on several of the buildings, fences, and walls. This peaked my interest and I began photographing the area. From this point on, everywhere I go I see some sort of tagging or art. Sometimes the art is beautiful, sometimes it's a simply phrase. But it's becoming more and more prevalent in Bangkok.

Eyesore. Tharg Future Shock cities will randomly deploy snipers to terminate shitbags with spray cans (and any number of other irritating social misdeeds).

What really irritates me is the shitbag taggers. Even the flowery, artistic names are getting on my nerves. Bangkok is becoming a haven for graffiti "artists" from all over the world. I don't mind art on the wall next to a canal or on an abandoned building but sprayed randomly as with the bottom photo, it's a friggin eyesore.

First pic, drawings on that dusty window to the left. *sigh* Reminds me of childhood.
Back then rocks were cheaper and way more de rigueur than spray-cans and grafitti was just Italian for swear words and dick drawings.

This sort of tagging garbage is absolutely worthless and about as far from art as a person can get.

Spray paint on my property & I'll deck the cunt.
Loosers love graffiti.

I dont mind it on freight trains. Better than only looking at corporate logos while waiting at a crossing
