I have a number of books by and about him.I recommend "TE Lawrence by his friends". Puts the man into the perspective of his time.

A must read - "The Pirate Coast: Thomas Jefferson, the First Marines, and the Secret Mission of 1805, by Ricjard Zacks. The real story behind the "Shores of Tripoli." US Marines led by an Army CPT. And when the US Navy truely was made of wooden ships & iron men.

If you're willing to drop 2 bills (hey, I've spent more on shit a lot less worthwhile), get ahold of "Icebreaker", and "The Chief Culprit: Stalin's Grand Design to start World War Two", by Surorov. The latter way cheaper than "Icebreaker", but I go after controversial books and firearms like a homo in a shoe store.


Oh, and use either for source material in college history discussion and watch the heads explode.

...really puts a human face on it.

i've only read part of the condensed version a friend had lying around. would be interesting to see the whole thing. but it's a huge effort for me to plow through a single book of such volume. if you get a hold of it though please let me know if it's worth the extra time investment or if i should just stick to the condensed version.

the last time i dedicated that kind of time to a multi-volume book it was totally worth it though. was the unabridged 'romance of the three kingdoms' attributed to luo guanzhong, which i also highly recommend.
