I can't see what is wrong with acknowledging that you made mistakes or took bad decisions. I only wish that more of them would do the same. A mass act of penance for the invasion of Iraq, led by Blair in sackcloth and ashes, would go down a treat. Better than Blair's constant, self-serving, "I did wha' I though' was right", don't you think?

Everyone makes mistakes, and everyone knows that everyone makes mistakes, but politicians are always terrified to admit it, because they think we'll never give them another chance to make a better job next time. When it's the reverse: their turn will inevitably come again in due course, and people will be more likely to give them a fair wind then if they give some indication that they know what they did wrong last time.

It's like when hospital doctors and their managements will never admit they made the error that ended up killing some poor sod because they're worried about being sued, when all the relatives want is for someone to fess up, take responsibility and say they're sorry.

Theres nothing wrong with acknowledging their mistakes. It just came across as if they were talking about a completely different party of different people entirely who just went by the same name coincidentally.

The general quality of the Milibands will become evident when his brother abandons Labour after all his lofty words and the emptiness they contained.

The general quality of David M will become clear: and since he's pissed off because Ed said the invasion of Iraq was wrong, and that's probably a major reason why he's likely to stand down, in that he's not prepared to accept it himself, it's a very good reason for supporting Ed over him. ;)

cock goes where?

Broken pledges are always worth noting, so let us record that Ed Miliband will not attend the TUC’s rally against the cuts tomorrow in Central Hall, across the road from the Commons.
When he was running for leader he said he would “attend the rally definitely”. Now it turns out he is busy.
The brothers will have to settle for a private meeting, away from the cameras.
He told the Yorkshire Post at the weekend “it’s a lobby of parliament and I’m sure I’ll be part of that, among other things I’m doing on Tuesday as well”.
The world-weary among you might say this was a predictable reversal, but what will Labour make about it?
After all, while Ed and the other candidates happily told the unions what they wanted to hear, didn’t David M refuse to promise he would turn up? Fat lot of good that did.
