Ghost Citie of China

Postby lok8 » Thu Dec 16, 2010 6:10 pm

"There’s city after city full of empty streets and vast government buildings, some in the most inhospitable locations. It is the modern equivalent of building pyramids. With 20 new cities being built every year, we hope to be able to expand our list going forward."

Here's an interesting article about Kangbashi. Sharp looking town homes there. I bet they'd go cheap. Unfortunately I guess they don't have enough water.
Wonder if the continued urbanization/industrial revolution will fill up some of these new cities from the rural villages.
This is kind of bizarre to me. My experience with China has been "villages" with populations of 1M and more people than I can comprehend.
There are a lot of buildings sitting empty. I love the gas stations with ~2,000 square foot markets that are used as homes where the only thing you can get is bottled water.
The wonders of a partial command economy in combination with status chasing monument building.
Lots there to freak out a Westerner.
Be nice to me. I'm a rug muncher.
