97 Abandoned Migrants Found in Mexico

Postby El Pelon » Tue Oct 19, 2004 10:15 am

Out of all the nationalities represented in the list below, which ones don't belong? This is the danger of unsecure borders. Immigrants from Bangladesh are coming to the US through Mexico. I am sure Islamic Militants already have as well, or will be doing so soon.

Police found 97 undocumented migrants crammed into an abandoned freight trailer on the side of a highway in the southern state of Chiapas Thursday, after the migrants hacked a breathing hole in the side of the trailer with a pick when the driver fled.

A passing police patrol spotted the trailer standing without a truck on the shoulder of a highway near the Guatemalan border in sweltering weather. When the officers approached the container, they heard shouts and pounding coming from inside.

The migrants had improvised an air hole, breaking open a metal wall with a pick and then widening the hole with their bare hands, so they could breath until the trailer's locked doors could be opened.

"I felt like I was going to asphyxiate, and faint," said Salvadoran migrant Jose Carlos Ruiz, one of those freed from the trailer. "A little while longer, and we were going to die."

The deaths of 19 illegal immigrants from Mexico locked inside a sweltering tractor-trailer near Victoria, Texas, in 2003 drew widespread concern.

On Thursday, police found 90 migrants from Central America, and 7 from Bangladesh, aboard the unrefrigerated trailer. Of the Central Americans, 74 were from Guatemala, 12 from El Salvador, and 4 from Nicaragua.

Police said the detainees were suffering from dehydration and hadn't eaten.

The migrants said they were on their way to the United States when the driver abandoned the rig. All were taken to a local police station, and will probably be deported.

This is no surprise. We find all sorts of folks on our ranch who have just crossed over. A friend of mine on a ranch closer to Mexico even found some Eastern Euros once. He said they were sun burnt to blisters and mad with thirst with enough cactus in their legs to build a small bridge.
Stan- "These nerds are a threat to our way of life Betty."
Betty- "If they win the homecoming carnival they can take over the greek council."
Stan- "Yeah, then we'll be up to our necks in nerd shit!"

Just in case anyone wants to read up on it...

-Mexican and international media are far more attentive to activities along Mexico’s northern border than its southern border

-Officially tolerated corruption abounds on both sides of the Mexican-Guatemalan frontier.

Very informative and slightly dense read at above link
