I enjoyed The Equalizer

"Lords of War"

Nicholas Cage dripping in Hollywood cheese is a big-time arms dealer during the collapse of the Soviet Bloc. Much better than it sounds, and it totally made me think of the BFC.

I wish they'd make more Cold War nostalgia movies. It's like we went straight from Vietnam to Iraqistan in Hollywood, but the USA's epic battle with the USSR, the only country in our weight class at the time, is like "meh."

....i just saw FIGHT CLUB (again) tonite.
What a great movie.
And Palahniuk is, as always, such a great writer.

It just fixed me right up.

I am now feeling recharged to face all the minutiae in my life. (...either that, or blow everything up).
Happy Good Friday, all. :)
No Apologies.

Just watched that too - also just finished Glenn Greenwald's book. The Scientology documentary was enlightening and disturbing. It's amazing what lengths some people will go to avoid paying taxes: Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief. Just another nail in the "organized religion is fucked up" coffin.

A current PBS offering: The Emperor of all Maladies: a history of cancer - grim but interesting.

speaking of "realism," just saw 13 hrs in benghazi. pretty truthful to the book, at least. and during the actual 13 hrs of attacks, fairly accurate from what I have read. the political shitstorm afterwards not withstanding, I thought it was evenly balanced. a little "rah rah" in places (waddaya expect w/ Michael bay). and most of the Christians In Action are portrayed a little too stereotypically as w/out any street smarts, which I find hard to believe.

I watched The Big Short a couple of weeks ago and thought it was quite good.

I read the book back in 2011 and it was quite good as well. I heard they did an excellent job of converting a book on a boring subject to be a good movie.

I just bought the book, which I'm hoping and assuming goes into more depth.
