I saw two episodes of the Ken Burns-like documetary on Country Music. Missed the Jimmy Rodgers and Milton Brown part but saw Hank Williams and Johnny Cash so that was worth it.

Some things are bound to be lost not in translation but in our different cultural realities.

It is very light on military matters but some of the political aspects of the conflict are documented pretty well. It has a lot of personal anecdotes and some gorgeous photos of the era. Wasn't more than a twinkle in my old man's eye at the time but IMO it seems to manage to capture the zeitgeist.

Some trippy stuff in Mandy, the Void, The Thing (from another planet).
They call it streaming services nowadays, but tv wise I enjoyed first season of the boys, kinda subversive for I think it is amazon.
Band of brothers review coming up, it being almost x-mas.

Googling "Innerzone" brought me there http://www.outpost-zeta.com/

Lots of B-movies, quite a few (to me unknown) titles. Shlock, boobs and silly sh!t, sign me up.

Here's some great films I've watched lately (some old, some new):

Give me Liberty (2019)
In this freewheeling comedy, medical transport driver Vic risks his job to shuttle a group of rowdy seniors and a Russian
boxer to a funeral, dragging clients like Tracy, a young woman with ALS, along for the ride.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4169146/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

The Lighthouse (2019)
Two lighthouse keepers try to maintain their sanity whilst living on a remote and mysterious New England island in the 1890s.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7984734/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0

The Witch (2015)
A family in 1630s New England is torn apart by the forces of witchcraft, black magic, and possession.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4263482/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

Hostiles (2017)
In 1892, a legendary Army Captain reluctantly agrees to escort a Cheyenne chief and his family through dangerous territory.

Haven't posted on the flag for 10 plus years. Good to be back. Check out dem flicks.

Welcome back holden!

Doctor Sleep is okay. Kid screaming/pleading wasn't my favourite part.

Saw Friday 13th original recently first time, didn't know about the twist.

The Jordan Peele stuff is awesome.

Get Out is a horror classic. He has figured out that comedy and horror are closely linked better than anyone.

His Twilight Zone TV show is worth a watch, like the original some stories are better than others.

Lovecraft Country. The supernatural stuff is not as terrifying as the Jim Crow stuff, but scary stuff is scary stuff.

Movies? I never see them unless they are pirated.

About to re-watch David Lynch's Dune.

Finally got around to reading the book after being nerd-bullied for almost 40 years.

I kinda liked Dune, but liked the book alot better. For someone that did not read the book the movie must have made no friggin sense. Like the sets though and Sting.

Rake: not very subtle, not very funny but still entertaining even if it does involve lawyers. Intro music is the third most annoying sound I have heard this year.

3 episodes in, liked the last one best (haunted house), it sure is something different but I get a strong westworld vibe as in nice visuals&cool concept but weakish story.

Re-watching old movies, pleasantly surprised by Green Room 2015 so kind of recent...

I tried all the Avengers movies because I was trying to get laid. Yeah, I know they were all released like 5 years ago. I've been busy. Sue me. Not a real big super hero comic fan, but I do understand the basics. Super let down. Also kind of a party killer when I point out that Thor saved Wakanda.

I'm back to watching anything Corman, and early Kubrick. Nothing worth a fuck has come out of H town since the 60s.

Also in a running battle with my current girl over how Tarantino is a fucking rip off artist, while she swears his films are "homages". Lady Snowblood is on the screen right now, and I can feel her getting more and more fucked off. Because I'm right.

I'd ask you all to pray for my soul, but I don't have one. Better to send lawyers, guns and money. I'll light the IR strobe when I hear your rotor wash. Kurt might have to take point on this one though. She's a Boricua from Brooklyn. Might need your diplomatic skills.....

Sounds kinda creepy man ;-)
I liked the Winter Soldier, antagonist was for once not a cookie-cutter always evil super-villain or whatever maybe even from some other dimension/time, score was cool, good action scenes, I enjoy betrayal stories, not too many awkward humour moments screwing up the tension.

Potato-potato situation IMO.
He sure saw a lot of movies, his are hits or misses for me.

Tarantino.... Hmmm..I agree with Alphabet but I will usually watch his films anyway if I pirate them.

The thing with Rip-Off and "Homage" is something the homage can be better.

Westerns vs. Spaghetti Westerns is a good example. Asside from the ones based on the Johnson County War, all American Westerns sucked. Even the good ones were ripped off from the Japanese.

The Italians knew how the West should have been (in film at least) and they got Eastwood and Robert Conrad. The Italians knew there was no "Good Guy With a Gun" only a "slightly better, slightly meaner guy with a gun"

The other "homage" that is better than the original are the scores that T-Bone Burnett put together as "Americana". T-Bone listened to real American Music and found it mostly sucked, even the gallows songs were chipper as were the murder ballads (except for Leadbelly) So he took nobodies and said "I'll produce your record if you do it the way I want to" His score of the first season of True Detective is a classic example how an homage can be better than the original.

But Tarantino...I am entertained but not blown away.

Not a fan of the music he chooses either except for Dick Dale.

No. Just no.

Tarantino makes cheesy B grade movies on purpose. That is his stupidity. One doesn't start out to make a cheesy B grade movie. It just happens because you have no budget.

Tarantino isn't "edgy", he isn't "indie", and he isn't breaking any approved Hollywood rules as all the fanbois like to pretend he is.

Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs (Every French New Wave film ever made), Kill Bill (Lady Snowblood, Foxy Brown), Inglorious Basterds ( The Dirty Dozen) and everything else he's "made" has been a complete rip off. Because he has no fucking talent.

Want to be edgy? Produce a film of old Nazis killing Jewish Hollywood movie producers.

He's a fucking punk, and a rip off artist.

Kubrick....Corman...Romero. That was talent on a shoestring budget. Tarantino should be drawn, quartered, and his punk ass remains burned at the stake for ruining film.
