.

Just saw Electra Glide in Blue for the fifth or so time since I saw it in a movie theater when it was released in 1973.

It qualifies as a modern western - the references to older westerns and the idea of motorcycles as iron horses is pretty blatant. Plus, a lot of it is filmed in Monument Valley.

It's not only a great western, but one of the best cop movies - that is, a movie about cops, not crime - ever made.

The odd thing is that the producer/director/musical score composer, James Guercio, never made another movie. He did have another career in music, though.

Also, Robert Blake is absolved of all sins by starring in this movie.

Caliban, your list is one of the best here. I was raised on westerns. If I started listing actors etc. most of the youngsters here wouldn't recognize the names. Thank you for a good list

BTW who ever listed Blazing Saddles as a western ya better think again. Great movie, but western it was not, satirical western that includes Yiddish speaking Indian chief, Nazis etc.
both “fiction” and “journalism” are artificial categories...HST
