Surely thats a Southern rther than a Western !

I personally haven't seen it but do recall seeing the clips when it cam out and thinking worth watching...but didn't. Guy Pierce being in it sounds enough as I have not seen him in a film I didn't thoroughly enjoy. I think he is careful in picking the quirky films to appear in.

You are correct of course but it is referred to as a western in most the reviews. Oddly.

Anyway, do watch it, you're in for a treat.

Ive just thought of a modern western that has a superb climax shootout, probably one of the best in film.

The way of the gun

Benicio Del Toro, Juliette Lewis andJames Caan.

Also realise that I haven't seen my copy for a long time, pretty certain I lent it to someone and the fucker never gave it back.

Probably the same forgotten person I lent Season 1 of The Wire to. I fucking hate people who do that.

Not sure about "There will be blood" is a Western, but Lewis amazing, as usual.

Dead man...A first of it's kind. Artsy-fartsy western. Didn't Ry cooder do the soundtrack for that too?

Deadwood...I was completely captivated after the first episode, but then...it was good while it lasted.
There was some definite thought on writing of these films/shows...Good call.

Oh yes, good call. But then anything Spencer Tracy was in is a good film, a superb actor, but then bad day is choc full of them.

In 2008, AFI did a Top 10 Westerns list.

1 The Searchers 1956
2 High Noon 1952
3 Shane 1953
4 Unforgiven 1992
5 Red River 1948
6 The Wild Bunch 1969
7 Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid 1969
8 McCabe & Mrs. Miller 1971
9 Stagecoach 1939
10 Cat Ballou 1965
When life itself seems lunatic, who knows where madness lies? To surrender dreams - -this may be madness; to seek treasure where there is only trash. Too much sanity may be madness! But maddest of all - -to see life as it is and not as it should be.

Most of those are on my favourites list but not in that order, I'd knock Cat balou and the wild bunch off it ; Butch&Sundance and Mccabe & Mrs Miller below 10 and add The man who shot Liberty Valance, My Darling Clementine and Winchester 73 and Cheyenne Autumn in top 10. But that still leaves me wondering where I fit in that list The Westerner, Rio Grande, Tombstone,Ride the high country, Fort Apache, Dodge city, Hour of the gun, Sgt Rutledge, Hombre..... what can I say, I love em all.

as an aside, did you know there have been slightly over seven thousand westerns made. Ive got just over a 150 of them on DVD and tape. Only sixthousnd nine hundred to go.
