Skyfall

Just saw it this afternoon. Pretty good. Similar level of quality to Casino Royale though better cinematography in many ways. Some real beautiful shots plus Javier Bardem as another great baddie.

Not to mention my new future wife, Berenice Marlohe

I have not seen it yet. I will wait until no one gives a shit that I have downloaded it.

But I heard it takes place in Istanbul, that is awesome.

But I heard they did not have an James Bond moments in the Cistern and that sucks.

When I first entered the Cistern I remember thinking "Bond, James Bond" and constructing an opening or closing sequence in my head around the place.

I watch Casino Royale a while back and liked it, except for the card playing parts and the falling in love parts..I know that was basiclally the whole movie but you do not watch Bond for actual spycraft, you watch it for action. George Smiley is for spycraft.

It opens in Istanbul and that's about all you get to see. Saying that, it was pretty dramatically and beautifully shot scenes of Istanbul. Not as exciting a chase as in Casino Royale but still interesting.

I have to agree about the card playing parts but I liked everything outside of it. Watching ppl play poker is pretty boring, in movies or on tv. People say the same about soccer so to each their own.

Smiley + spycraft - I still need to see the new Tinker, Tailor

The old BBC TV version with Alec Guinness is well worth a shot if you haven't seen it already and have six hours or so to spare. Terrific authentic late-'70s London cold war drabness, and a perfect rendition of Smiley's methodical technique of making people so depressed they will tell him anything if he'll go away.

The same lot also did a version of Smiley's People which I have not yet seen but am looking forward to:

"John Le Carré stated the BBC version was 'complete' and should not be remade," according to Eric Margolis: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/eric-margolis/tinker-tailor-soldier-spy_b_1392437.html

I downloaded it right after I finished Tinker Tailor. If the modern Smiley wasn't dry enough for you then Alec Guiness is just what you need.

Berenice Marlohe is one of the top two smokin hot bond babes. ever. the other was also bedded by craig, in casino royale, Caterina Murino.

Smiley is one of the only "spy" characters where it is appropriate to say "good. Now, could you make him a little more boring. Less fashion. No less. Not 'walk-around-in-his-underwear' less but "more clothes from Sears" less."

Bond is who you want to be when you are a kid and you imagine yourself grown up. George Smiley is who you want to be when you are 40 and imagining yourself as a 58 year old.

I enjoyed Skyfall a lot. James Bond movies always have action scenes or scenarios that are far from realistic, thats what makes it Bond. However, for some reason I was pissed off by the underground 'train' scene. A little to freaking convenient. Especially cause they were adding some realism into this Bond film

I loved that they used Hashima island, Japan. That's on the hot list of places to go to
