LOS ANGELES - Michael Moore plans to make a sequel to Fahrenheit 9/11, the controversial film that is the highest-grossing documentary in entertainment history.

According to a report in Daily Variety, Moore plans to release Fahrenheit 9/11 1/2 in two to three years.

"Fifty-one per cent of the American people lacked information [in the recently concluded presidential election] and we want to educate and enlighten them," he told the trade paper.

"They weren't told the truth. We're communicators and it's up to us to start doing it now."

Moore will make the film with Harvey Weinstein, the Miramax studio boss who produced Fahrenheit 9/11.

Like the original, the sequel will focus on the conflict in Iraq and the war on terror.

Moore enraged many people by criticizing U.S. President George W. Bush for his handling of the Sept. 11 attacks, as well as highlighting links between the Bush family and that of Osama bin Laden.

His documentary was also a sensation at the box office, pulling in $119 million US, a record amount for a documentary.

Moore has entered the movie in the best-picture category for this year's Oscar race. His Bowling for Columbine took the 2003 Academy Award for documentaries.

His next project is Sicko, a film about the U.S. health-care system.
