Supreme Court: State & Local Govt. Must Honor 2nd Amendment

Postby mapandcompass » Mon Jun 28, 2010 6:39 pm

Seems pretty obvious to me but at least now it's on the books.

Heard about this on the radio this morning. Almost emptied a magazine into the air in celebration but decided not to because I didn't want to have to buy a new roof panel for my car.
About time and just in time as future Supremes chosen by this administration might not be so inclined to decide in that direction.
It does seem as if the tide in the US may be leaning towards restoring gun rights.

Gun bans can now be challenged as unconstitutional. It's progress. I let out a "whoohooo!" and pretended to shoot a gun in the air when I heard it on the radio. On NPR, no less.
My real one remained in my pocket :).

In the comments on the article about it at "The Economist" the Euro bigots are looking down their noses at us, of course.
I thought the paper was a conservative rag...

Financially it is but socially it's the same tired old knee-jerk lefty horseshit that passes for intellectualism here in Europe.
I know the law. And I have spent my entire life in its flagrant disregard.

That must have been reassuring for the people in the cars next to you. The screaming man in the next car was only pointing pistol fingers in their general direction. I imagine there are still police patrols and white coated orderlies with nets still looking for you.

It was early and the parking lot at the supermarket was still empty, although maybe security cameras caught something. I didn't even do a donut.

But while the existing laws are on the books, the ban in NYC and other places are still valid.

Plus the Supremes gave their ruling but handed it down to the lower courts to enforce. I would guess that if I had some kind of pistol in my apartment without the proper permits here in NYC I would be cited, and then a lower court here in the city would uphold that citation.

But still...better than nothing.

No, actually, they told the lower courts not to uphold those citations.

Cities and States will now just require 2000$ classes to "be granted the right" to carry. Further limiting the poor from having means to defend themselves.

I might be a free market twat, but I also believe in "an RPG in everyone's cabinet". Only when the populace is armed to the teeth can we correctly state that we live in a free country.
I am the object of criticism around the world. But I think that since I am being discussed, then I am on the right track.

Of course, the municipal Overlords of Red Chicago have already rushed to freshly restrict the rights of that city's subjects. It's funny too, the below article quotes the city aldermen (who went 45-0 on the new ban). Behold gems of municipal commentary like:

"Ald. Mary Ann Smith (48th) said that law was written for militias and, 'they guaranteed the right to carry around muskets not Uzis,'...
Ald. Ed Burke (14th) retorted, 'We can disagree with the Supreme Court all we want, but … this is the law and we’re going to have to follow it.'"

http://www.suntimes.com/news/cityhall/2 ... 10.article

(In all fairness though, at least it's a bit more reasonable than their prior ban.)

When will they figure out that functioning commmunities don't have problems with violent crime regardless of how many guns they have?
But it doesn't matter because they got smacked down anyway.
