So.... quick question

Postby Bobby Sands » Tue Jul 31, 2012 5:57 pm

You guys ever gonna let Penta back, or is she so threatening to you that she must be kept off of this withering board?

Larger question, of course, is where everyone sees this board going. Seems like less and less activity here. Even RYP seems to prefer Facebook. So, what's the dealio? Do we need another Johnny Walker Lindh-type news event to draw more people to this board... or is this type of board dead anyway... or has "Dangerous Places" lost it's cachet?

I would marry her for her husband's primo wine collection, but I suspect Penta isn't into polyamorous relationships.

I will answer this question the same way I answered Nowhammy's BFC sex question.

Wow.

the board was cool for a good while. took some blows these last couple of years. i dont think penta being here or not being here will make a difference either way in regard to it living or dying. plus not many travel any more for various reasons. and its now more like the black flag nursing home up in here. robert's like 68 or 78 or something isn't he. on the bright side RYP's foray into the knife business has produced some quality products. i use my uniquely numbered first-generation lifetime-guaranteed dpxhest to scrape resin outta bowls and dice up hash/weed. i'll be using it for the same thing in iran. i'll be pretty upset if they take it away when i land at imam khomeini airport.

EDIT: i did not mean to insinuate i still travel. i'm just trying to live and get along like normal ppl. i'm actually pretty anxious about this upcoming trip. i'd rather be comfortable than adventurous these days.

As long as it is up and running the BFC will always be a "shell of its former self" since that is what happens, especially on the internet. Things change.

The idea that posters leaving or getting booted make or break this place is laughable. It changes it sure, but still not as much as Facebook changed it.

Anyone have any good e-mail exchanges with family or friends lately? Or is your e-mail account just a shell of its former self too? But you still check it, you still e-mail with it and all of that. Its still used...and people still come to the BFC more than they do their e-mail account.

The folks bitching about the BFC going all lame and stuff are the ones checking "like" buttons for products they enjoy all day long.

I prefer it simply because e-mailing at work is no longer seen as a work distraction compared to hanging out on a website like this or being on facebook. But I think I may be the tech equivalent of carrying calling cards for valets to place in a silver tray while waiting to graduate from the sitting room to the main living area for an audience with someone.

However there are even more obscure internet things than e-mail still used...like BBS

http://www.synchro.net/sbbslist.html

Here is a list. The amount of time between "shell of our former selves" to "retro" may not be so long.

Lets not forget usenet. It is so under the radar now that I am sure all kinds of weird discussions and porn are happening there with young FBI interns viewing it like the crank start of a Model T and not even bothering. People still actually pay separately for it too.

and for those of you wishing to explore the ignored world of the gopher protocol you may start here.

Like flint knapping, something is always useful and cool to someone.
