the Liberals are on the left in Britain
Well, yes and no. They appear to be on the left in Britain since Tony Blair has taken the Labour Party so far to the right. And because they're against the war in Iraq.
But historically they've been more of a centrist party. They're actually called Liberal Democrats, ever since they merged with the Social Democrats, a group of Labour Party rebels who broke away from the right of the Labour Party.
Nowadays they're rather mix-n-match: they have right-wing policies for when they're trying to seduce former Conservative voters, and left-wing for when they're trying to provide a home for distressed Labour voters.
