University..WHERE????????

Postby bmarx » Sat Sep 09, 2006 1:18 am

Hey guys. I'm taking a year off now but next I'm going to university. Since I gotta go, I was wondering what you all knew of ourseas/outside of the US universities. I'm looking for a pretty good place (academically and party wise) because I didn't too bad on SATs and grades but mainly I wanna live in a cool place where they teach in english. Suggestions???

A friend of mine studied at the University of Amsterdam.
His engineering course was taught in English and it's a great place as far as academic matters are concerned. The dutch are reall cool people too.

Have you considered a UK university? Exeter is a great place... www.ex.ac.uk

Freetown

Freetown, Sierra Leone has a university that is currently accepting applications for foreign students. It's exotic and they speak english. And tuition for an undergraduate degree is under $100 USD!

I guess you simply send the cheque and they send you a degree certificate?

University of Warwick in the UK is a top 5 UK university with a great international reputation - I go there and there are just as many international students as UK students...

It's a campus university about an hour and 15 minutes away from London [in Coventry and near to Birmingham] ... most of the lecturers hold doctorates, it has great nightlife, good sporting facilites and the fastest athletics track in Britain or Europe or something.. check it out for yourself..

Makerere University, provided they work out their faculty strike issues now, is an unreal place to study in Kampala, Uganda. It's British system and you learn practical skills. One of the best if not the best in East Africa. Good reputation and cheap everything, from tuition to room and board to food. One of the nicer African capitals I've been to.

Depends. What's your interest? There's been a lot of options thrown out there but why/where would you most like to study? There are American-style universities in tons of places around the world as well as excellent ones based on the European model. The thing that matters most is 1) what you want to study and 2) where you want to spend the next 4 yrs of your life. And of course 3) the money.

I know someone at the University of Delft, you can follow an English language curriculum. Several American students go there as well, highly regarded university to boot.

I know it's kind of cliché (and not the cheapest route), but what about just going to a US school and then doing a couple of years abroad?

American Univ in DC has some fairly exotic (by normal US study abroad standards) choices, and when you're stateside, you're in DC, which bodes well for International Relations stuff.

If you can get a scholarship, it'd probably be worthwhile in the long run.
The further you get away from the US, the more questions you'll have to answer about what exactly your degree is.

I'm looking for a good university for grad school. I'm definitely checking out the American universities around the world since I'm eligibile for some benefits, plus I've been studying the Middle East so those universities are appealing. I also found some grad certificates that some universities offer through government programs and whatnot too, that may be an option as well.
