You left my copy of Asian Babes on a plane again???
Dammit man, I said that copy was for toilet reading, not for taking half way round the world on a plane.

It says 'Toilet Copy' in big letters on the cover on the waterproof folder. What part of 'Toilet Copy' don't you understand?

Jeez man, it is costing me a fortune having to replace all the porn mags you keep forgetting to leave behind. You are going to bankrupt me if you keep this up. I am going to have to chain them to the cistern from now on (and you are going to pay for the chain)
I'm not really a proper reporter, due to the chronic lack of discipline, negligible attention span, and a certain juvenile difficulty taking serious things seriously.

The Jungle is neutral is a great book. Fun with guerilla warfare.

Lately reading one I bought in a used book shop a year back and just now getting to, Phil Ashby's Against All Odds: Escape from Sierra Leone. Not a bad book, but one of those that has to have a lot of filler since they can't seem to make the actual events fill a whole book.

Also, continuing may foray into pulp fiction with Burroughs A Princess of Mars. For whatever reason, I've never been able to finish this one. Cool story though.

A long overdue read, finished Neal Stephenson - 'Snow Crash' tonight. It was good reading, tapping that cyberpunk vein.

I've just started reading Craig Murray's Murder in Samarkand, and it is extraordinary. I was worried it might be a bit turgid, but it's written in such a lucid, engaging style, that it's going to be a breeze. Already, after only a couple of hours, there have been whole chunks I would have liked to c + p, on clever corruption wheezes, on how the IMF and World Bank are pushed to do and say what their masters want, even when that is transparent fiction ... Don't worry: I'd have to type it all out, so I won't. But if anyone wants to know about the inner workings of a place like Uzbekistan, or (and this will come later) the inner workings of the British FCO: I can't recommend this too highly.
Shes never interfered with me. I have no complaints about her.
Same here.
Mega ditto.
I met her once and I found her to be a nice lady. Not kookey in any way.
Penta has always been gracious, kind and very sane in all my interactions with her.

Now with an actual stack of books sitting on my table it appears that I have a reading list for 2007. (Yes, it will take that long):

Thomas Pynchon's Against The Day. I'm only 25 pages in and have had to look up 3 words: Absquatulated, vol-à-voile, and clarionet. I've lived such a sheltered life.
Also on the chopping block is James Joyce's Ulysses and Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse Five. I'm a sucker for the classics.

Another addition to my to-read list is the original , 80-year old German version of von Lettow-Vorbeck's book "My Reminiscences of East Africa". I managed to find it on an antiquarian's website in pretty good condition, including all maps and diagrams. Quite happy about that acquisition, feels like a piece of history.

I've just finished A Primate's Memiors by Robert M. Sapolsky. It covers the many years he spent in Kenya observing a baboon troop and his various travels around other parts of East Africa.
It is possibly the most engrossing book I've ever read. Written in a very entertaining and enlightening way. It's hard to put down. I think Flaggers would thoroughly enjoy it.
