Blueberry Flavored Gin with Pommegranate juice

Postby Kurt » Sun Jun 28, 2009 5:09 am

I had some gin sitting around and no tonic. So I had some frozen blueberries in the freezer and poured a bunch in the bottle and let it soak for a while.

Then I added some Pomms Pommegranate juice to it over ice and it is quite tasty.

Now I am loaded with anti-oxidants.

and gin.

Sadly Kurt, the makers of Pom were bitchslapped for lying about the effects of their product. Any juice that contains a lot of peel, seed, fiber is good for you. Like that "drink red wine " bullshit since grape juice has the exact same qualities.

Personally I think the preservative effects of straight gin combined with the fiber of three olives stuffed with the fish oil found in the anchovies along with the exercise inherent in repeatedly lifting the glass are enough to keep you healthy.

I have no problem mixing alcohol and fish...but alcohol, blueberry and fish might not be so good.

So I will have to wait until this bottle is gone...or drink it faster.

You might be able to pull it off with something like Trout or Char ala like they might in the woods of Alaska. I've heard about Trout with berries in parts of Canada.

Yes, not so much homemade but there are a few commercial brands.

Aaah. I didn't know there was such a thing as commercial sloe gin. One of the few traditional things I thought was left to individuals. Oh well, I usually miss the sloes in England, so maybe one day I'll succumb.

Yeah here under age girls (and old ladies) drink it and after too much of it after parties the youngsters when there's snow on the ground you could always tell where they got sick.

I expect only old ladies still drink it in England, and very occasionally a few holdouts like me who associate it with those old cold winters we used to have. It does hit the spot when you've just got back from a long freezing walk. I get nostalgic for such things in hot Spanish summers - which of course I would never swap. ;)

Sloe gin is the preserve of the posh people over here, just the stuff that a passed over major's daughter would drink. Me too, it's essential to pass to the girls between drives on the shoot - if you're lucky they'll be pissed and up for it between the end of lunch and the first drive of the afternoon - the whiff of powder, fresh air, dying animals and a liquid lunch is the best aphrodisiac known to man - after rohynpol but that's Elso's territory.

I've been at the Gin lately, and had a friend bring over some tonic...Mixed lemons & limes w/all +/h20 = <3 was good in a Nalgene while mowing the yard the other day too!

Fish + EtOH = nasty + wRoNg!
Life is short. Eat, Drink & Be Merry!

I like the homespun approach. Recently I have been enjoying:
Bombay Sapphire + Ice + Glass

Usually I skip the ice part but it's summer in the ATL. Damn fine stuff.
