My stepdad and cousin are both getting Flor de Caña for Christmas, which should be entertaining. Tic Tac is made where I've been living, in Ahuachapán, and my friends made me take a shot as some kind of sick initiation ritual. Clears the sinuses, which you sort of need after too much crappy Salvadoran weed.

I agree Barbancourt and Brugal. Try Barrilito three star, makes Bacardi taste like mouthwash.

I could sink those all night.

My wife complained that coffee liqueur is too syrupy so I told her to thin it out with Vodka.

Through part of the 80s and most of the 90s, we knew an old farmer in the Shenandoah Valley who made the finest sipping liquor I ever had. While most 'home-made' is made of corn, this old fellow distilled his from wheat with a hint of peaches and wild berries. He aged his in Oak casks. Often on the way to camp we would go out of our way as to trade for a gallon. It would put a warm glow in ye.

It was a sad day when we learned the Old Farmer had passed

God, how I loathe that euphemism. What had he passed? An exam, his driving test, a parcel, a law, judgment? A bluebell wood, a funeral cortege, five elephants riding unicycles, the age of consent?
He died, ffs.

He passed over to the other side.

One's regional jargon falling under scorn, or are we talking of liquor ?

My thanks for your Welcome.

Its a common term in many areas of the US. My grandma used to use the term "go" for death but only future tense.

When he goes his suffering will end.

like that.

But after he died she would not say he "went", she would say he "died" but some people will say "passed" as the past tense of "go" for death.

Remember..we got a different language here that is just similar enough to your English that we often get accused of speaking it incorrectly.

and the American word for the language that we speak is English..so that adds to the confusion.

I know, Kurt. I still hate it. Our equivalent is "passed on" or "passed away", which I dislike too, but at least it doesn't leave me inevitably wondering what the object is supposed to be, as with just "passed" (though I've noticed more people dropping the on or away here recently). I don't mind "go/went", which is also common here - if people want to use euphemisms, it's a perfectly reasonable one.

You got off lightly, Nenochtoo, with just a bit of linguistic displeasure in response to your first post. Don't let me put you off.
