Can anyone help please?

Postby Playete » Fri Sep 11, 2009 3:48 pm

I reinstalled Vista on my Dell XPS m1330. I reinstalled the sound card driver, checked the device manager to see if the speakers were working, and made sure they were not muted. However, no sound comes out when I play a song on Windows Media Player. Any advice?

Go to the dell website and download the drivers for Vista, uninstall the sound drivers you have on you Dell, restart, install the new drivers, restart…

This is more than likely an output device issue. When you reinstall vista, you will need to change your computer back to the default output device. The same thing happened to me a few months ago.

Then again, James' advice is another probable solution.

Directions for both here:

http://www.windowsreference.com/windows-vista/fix-for-sound-missing-or-no-sound-after-vista-sp1-install/

This is reason #285094 why I hate Vista (P.)O.S. XP (the windows that works) was a LOT better in many ways.

No, we'll have poured boiling oil on them long before it gets to that stage.

Try and see that your cables are properly in, maybe rollback your drivers to an earlier version and go through the Sound section in control panel throughly to make sure that your computer is using the right sound device.
