Where to go in June/July?

Postby crotalus01 » Fri Feb 05, 2010 1:56 am

New discount at my work, $475 anywhere Delta flies to Asia, Africa, Australia or Middle East roundtrip (standby though).
Dont want to repeat a country so these locations are out: Afghanistan, Morocco, Israel, Egypt, Mauritania, Cambodia, Thailand, China, Vietnam, Laos, Jordan.
Australia is out (too expensive).
Central/West Africa requires too many vaccines that I cant afford.
Any suggestions for a cool trip that I can hit 2 or more countries in 2 weeks? I was thinking maybe Ethiopia/Djibouti/Somalia (Somaliland/Hargesia area)...

Lookin at Ethiopia my self and when you wanna go is the rainy season. Centeral America is nice, you can see a lot in Guat / Honduras. Cheap too and no jet lag, also you can ger yer danger factor in by getting silly drunk and going to the many bad parts of town.
Im reallly fuclimg pissed but fespite that I can still hit a tarfet at 1000m plus. mayVRVe bnot tonight but it qint beyond the wit if man. Nowhammy.

Guat would be my choice in CA, always wanted to see Tikal. Looking for a bit longer trip this time around though, 2 weeks in CA seems a bit of a waste. Iran is my first choice, but of course they are not gonna come off the visa for an American travelling independantly and I am too pigheaded to do the organized tour bit to get one. Thought about the Russian Caucuses but the visa is too hard to get (or I am too lazy, one or the other).
Any other suggestions? Ethiopia is looking more and more appealing, especially the proximity to Djibouti, Somali and Yemen...

Lots of ground to cover in just 2 weeks though. I am planning 4 weeks for Ethiopia and Somalliland and still dont know how I am going to pull it off. Have you thought about East Europe? Romania and Bulgaria are nice and have a bit of dodgyness about them. Hey why not go for Kurdistan? I wanna go in Sept so if you go in July you would be able to tell me all about it. You can go overland from Ankara. Nuthin says DP traveller like an Iraq stamp in your passport. Stiv and Lee over at Polos Bastards both have on the ground experence there.

I would be too tempted to sneak into Iran...If you make it to Ethiopia before me be sure and tell me where the cheap hotels and good smoke are at!

How about Syria and Lebanon?
Shes never interfered with me. I have no complaints about her.
Same here.
Mega ditto.
I met her once and I found her to be a nice lady. Not kookey in any way.
Penta has always been gracious, kind and very sane in all my interactions with her.

Been to Israel and trying to avoid going to a place I have already been. Syrian and Lebanon sound like good backup plans though.

I stayed in the Marriott, but it is shut down now. Just check the usual hotel booking sites to get an idea of prices
