Istanbul

I'm planning to head to Istanbul in late May, early June for a week, ten-days. Anybody got any recommendations?

The Military Museum is superb.
I know the law. And I have spent my entire life in its flagrant disregard.

Yes, you must see walk around the Cistern near the Hagia Sophia. It is amazing and you will regret not seeing it if you go to Istanbul and see pictures of it.

One of my favorite cities in the world.

Make use of the blokes who sell those kebab sandwich looking things. Turkish bread, vegies and chicken for a price equal to about $1-$2.

The Turks are possibly the most helpful friendliest people i've ever come across.

Hotel Ambassador is reasonable and has a nice breakfast buffet with rooftop garden seating. It's in Sultanamet. http://www.hotelambassador.com/

Go along the lower pedestrian level of the Galata bridge Sultan to have some of the fish sandwiches and fried sardines there.

In Taksim, there's a four story Irish pub, with a roof deck, it's great.

Topkapi Palace is worth it, but it takes a day.

The carpet sellers are annoying but bearable.

And yes, Turkish food is so good it makes me forget it does not have any pork in it.

hitchhikings not hard either. They're so friendly that when they give you a lift they'll probably buy you food too

Mostly Istanbul, but since I figure about seven or so days on the ground, I'll be looking for a few day trips. Aussie's right about the hitch-hiking, but, hey, I'm an "old guy" according to some people. If he's about the age in his photo, my hitch-hiking heyday was before he was born.
