Cool meteorite stuff

Postby Dr. V » Sun Oct 03, 2010 12:38 pm

My brother is a professional meteorite hunter (so to speak - he does dust devils and the atmosphere on Mars too...) and is currently out in the Australian outback tracking meteorites and fireballs.

The website is http://www3.imperial.ac.uk/desertfireballnetwork

and project teams blog is linked on the right, under blogs from Expeditions / 2010...

somewhat linked to this is the Dust Devils project:

Might be of interest to some of you.

It is to me.

In fact did you see the picture of the dustdevil on Mars a few days ago? Due to the camera resolution it was not that impressive of a photo but it was ON MARS.

Something we should be saying more often in 2010, but cool spacey stuff has slowed pace a bit.

Meteorites are interesting. I found an iron (88% iron, 10% nickel, 2% cobalt) meteorite on the Appalachian Trail one hungover morning.

I read an article about a guy who did that (in Wired I think), he traveled all around the world hunting down meteorites - sounded way cool

I'm still keen to go to Libya to find some in the desert. I just have the wrong sort of passport to be very welcome there.....

You sir, are overusing that adjective - either that or you have a very limited vocabulary.
