Muscat, Oman

It's cold and miserable outside and I have decidede to do the intelligent thing - head to somewhere with some sun. I live in London so the middle east is easily accessible for a long weekend. Has anyone been to Muscat, any thoughts or ideas?

The late MP Alan Clark wrote that the Al Bustan was the best hotel he'd ever stayed in.

I spent Christmas 1987 in Muscat. While not "cold and miserable" it is by no means a tropical paridise either.
