My grandfather had campaign medals from two world wars. He lied about his age to enter WW1 and retired at 65 as a military attaché. Not even his loving children or grandchildren knew what he actually did (trust me, I asked enough times), but could guess at it from where he travelled, his medals etc.

I have pictures of him in the jungles and mountain tops of South America in his 40's and 50's, the arctic, Buckingham palace (on the day he got his O.B.E.) and more. One constant in all these pics? He was always smoking his pipe.

Here's a picture of an old nerd.

Getting a REAL cuban cigar is a bit tricky. Stateside Cohibas are made in the Dominican Republic. I've been to Nicaragua twice and their own cigars are really good, if you drop by Granada check out a cigar house called Doña Elba, excellent cigars to be had for pennies. Also, Cohiba and Padron have factories in Nicaragua; wraps, fill, rolling and packaging is done there. The only Cuban they have is the name.

I got a nice case full of Cohibas from the head dude of a barrio in Havana along with some coke and a 21 year old woman. The woman looked scared so I bypassed her and went straight for the coke.

Anyways,I gave the case to my father.

I usually buy my stoogies from http://www.atlanticcigar.com/ - they have been good to me so far.

Exploding cigars are the best cigars.

My first (and best) cigar was a chocolate macadamia nut cigar from Hawaii. I was hanging out with some cadets from the military academies and the West Pointer with us couldn't light it due to the wind. He left it in my room and I kicked back and enjoyed it. I never normally smoked but that was just too delicious.

When I flew out of Cuba a couple of weeks ago there were quite a few (lot) less Juan Lopaz #2s in Havana than when I arrived.
Worked out about 6 US dollars each.......
Delicious.

Regular cigars smokers will know this, but if you're thinking about getting into cigars I have a tip (take it or leave it) regarding humidors.

Most come with an analogue hydrometer.
These look very nice....that's why.
Get a digital hydrometer, they are much more accurate.

I keep the analogue hydrometers that came with the humidor in it, but also place a digital inside the lid as well.
They (digital) come with a magnetic (one side-adhesive) dime sized disc.
Sick it to the inside of the lid and the digital attaches to the magnetic side.

Some good digital ones don't even need to be calibrated with the wet salt procedure.

My first one was a Swisher Sweet at a poker game when I was 16. I thought it tasted awesome. I wish I had a picture of that moment because nothing looks more ridiculous that 16 year olds smoking cigars.

I could imagine. I never dealt with Swishers before then either and they can be alright, but I prefer the more subtle flavors. I rarely smoke but I will definitely buy a few more of those cigars when I get the chance.
