Recommended Beer

Glenda Sherbrooke

So at this point I should come clean and say I'm on leave and have not had any beer for 5 months until now so I'd say any beer is pretty freaking awesome. This stuff though is REALLY good and I am loopy halfway through one, did I mention its 18.5%? It does have a kilted Scottish transvestite on the label but recommended anyway:

Unfortunately its kind of a local thing for Edmonton but a barley wine of this potency that tastes this good is worth mention. Hopefully there's not already a craft beer thread started.

I believe Sammichlauss is 14.5% but not sure right now. There's also been a boom of craft beer here in the states, I'm really digging Phinn & Matts. But my all time favorite is my cheap native beer, Medalla.

Going to take my Dad on a short beer hunter road trip around the Pacific Northwest in the spring. Can any locals recommend some good brew pubs and craft beers? I'm partial to Belgian styles but any advice is welcome. I'll probably just keep it to Washington and Oregon but you never know.

http://www.uprightbrewing.com/ is a great for Belgians. http://www.doublemountainbrewery.com/ is a great one in Hood River. http://www.terminalgravitybrewing.com/ is on tap at many places in Portland, the brewery is in Enterprise (NE Oregon almost WA/ID). http://www.rogue.com/ is good but overpriced. http://www.d2m.com/Tugwebsite/ has some interesting beers (they tend to have an experimental tap which may be incredible or disgusting).
