I've had mine since 1991. Got it for $12 at Wal-Mart. I just rendered a pound of salted fat back (my apartment now smells like pig..fat back does not smell like bacon) and mixed the cracklins in with some mustard and prepared horseraddish and spread it on a head cheese sandwich.
I had a good farmboy moment tonight.
Don't cook salty things in it for a period while it is new, it will pit easier when it gets wet.
Never let imbeciles clean it either.
Buy cheap cooking oil now and only use it to season your pan after cooking in it. After you clean it, then take a paper towel soaked with the cheap ass oil and rub it all over the pan while the burner is on high.
