Slivovitz and hot cider

Postby Kurt » Mon Dec 12, 2011 3:46 am

The Slivovitz they sell here in the USA is not the same "plum brandy" as I got used to in Bulgaria (Slivova Rakia) and I do not like to drink it straight..here. I got a bottle as a gift a while back and tonight I mixed it with spiced hot cider when I returned from dinner. Its great. The plum flavors mix good with the apples.

Here is my recipe:

1 tsp Grain of Paradise (hard to find...also known as Crocodile Pepper. You might have to skip this)
2 tsp powdered ginger
a few bulbs of Allspice

heat on the lowest setting for a long time, you want to make sure the ginger inside is "rolling" and not boiling because for some reason boiling causes all the spices to collect on the edge of your saucepan.

Even Saki? For me hot booze is one of the joys of winter.

Aaah, hot booze. Nuthing gets me smashed quicker. Literally. All I ever got from hot booze was broken bones from falling around drunk on the snow and ice. There probably isn't a flight of stairs outside anywhere in the colder parts of Europe that I haven't tumbled down at least twice. Usually very heavily :-(
