Once again, asking for your recommendations.
Any books in the last two years that have resonated w one's overseas stays and beyond. Military and civilian.
Most notably, those that contributed to one's staying alive over 'there'. and staying sane 'here', afterwards.
Thanks, all.
and Happy Ash Wednesday. No meat, but i'm drinking red wine. >:)
No Apologies.

Not from the last two years but still the most significant I've read since it came out is David Grossman's On Combat.

Also good is:
Training at the Speed of Life by Kenneth Murray
Sharpening the Warrior's Edge: The Psychology & Science of Training by Bruce Siddle

The Sun on Sunday.
I'm not really a proper reporter, due to the chronic lack of discipline, negligible attention span, and a certain juvenile difficulty taking serious things seriously.

You're welcome, glad they were found useful. Grossman's On Killing is also good but not as current. You will also find some in recent years that disagree with some of his research (especially when it comes to PTSD) but it stands as a great start to understanding and his detailed list of references is also useful.

As I said, there are other opinions. This is one of them.

about halfway thru Hank Crumpton's, an ex-CIA (is there such a thing?) guy, sorta bio. Not too bad but definately written from a rah rah perspective. he was recently on 60 minutes.
The real Army, composed entirely of young enthusiasts in camouflage uniforms, from whom impossible efforts would be demanded and to whom all sorts of tricks would be taught. That's the army in which I should like to fight.”

I had a thread soliciting pertinent reading material for deploying somebodies going to afghanistan, a few years ago. I'm asking again, for the same, re Iran,(Pakistan, etc).
Advice, info, books that you've found useful re the regional language, culture, and also other tactics.
Thanks in advance, everybody.

These two are great old books that are obviously a little dated but the lessons are timeless:

both by Lester Grau

we have all the aforementioned, but i wasnt sure of their relevance this time around.
I'll keep suggesting them.
