RECOMMENDED: Cheap Wine

After deciding to 'mostly' quit Hard Liquor (especially Brown Liquors) so my insides don’t explode or rot away before I turn 40 - I have been drinking allot of wine lately.

And after drinking around 50 bottles of various wines over the past 2 months I honestly I can’t really tell the difference between an 80 dollar bottle of wine from a 7 dollar bottle so I have just decided to drink cheap wine – not cheap like Mad Dog 2020 or NightTrain, but cheap like an 8 dollar bottle of Chateau Kefraya or a 6 dollar bottle of Lutetia Merlot. I have especially started to like the Lebanese Reds that go for between 5 and 12 bucks and any Chilean white under 10 bones*

I am sort of guessing that wine is like Scotch – people claim they can tell the expensive shit from the cheap shit but in reality it is pretty much the same and they are just snobs bull-shitting to impress people they don't even know.

Or maybe I am just an unsophisticated knuckle-dragger that likes cheap wine

*NOTE: Prices reflect the prices in Erbil where they do not have booze taxes so the prices in the west may be a bit more

What do you players think - is there such a gigantic quality difference that a 100 dollar or more bottle of wine compared to a 10 dollar bottle of wine justifies the substantial price gap?

P.S. I can tell the difference between cheap Port Wine (under 20 bucks) and a nice Port (100+)

Another Note: I like the Smooth Buzz wine gives you that is unlike the 'Hard" buzz of Liquor or the "I am bloated as fuck' feeling that beer gives you

Being in California we have lots of $10 wines that I"m perfectly cool with. My favorite, though, is Rombauer Merlot which is $30 and delicious. But I'm a knuckle dragger too.

How much of that 30 bucks is taxes (both for you and the Vineyard)?

I go with stuff under $20 or over $80 for special times.

Just find out what you like. I always get laughed at by restaurant staff and grocery store clerks for not following whatever is suggested at the moment.

South American stuff is gaining popularity but still cheap. Many vineyards offer clubs where they send you bottles of wine for a year or whatever you sign up for. So you could have stuff sent to a U.S. address and pick it up a few years from now.

Even Gallo is ok watered down. Have your maid clean up your spills, red wine sugars will attract a swarm of fruit flys.

Malbec from Argentina with the screw off cap. Good stuff can be had in my neighborhood at $8 a bottle.

Unless you order it in a restaurant or you buy it as an investment (pretty lame), you shouldn't be paying 100 dollars for a single bottle of wine.

There's only one real wine: Buckfast.
Me and me mates Flipflop, Nowonmai, Caliban, Rickshaw and VLindsay wouldn't stand for any other booze.
Any other wine is for faggots and vegetarians!!!

Yep, but unlike MD20/20 Buckfast claims a pedigree of being made by Monks. I have never had Buckfast but I have had many Monk made alcohol and usually celibacy, isolation and herb gardens made for some good stuff (Chartreuse supposedly took over 100 years to perfect and was designed to be the pinnacle of Galenic herbal medicine and was designed to promote longevity...the French taunted me for drinking it with tonic water)

From the deepest south of England
To Scotland's northern shores
Then across the Irish Sea
To Ireland's drunken whores

From the Hackney fields in London
To Hyde Park, Leeds 6
We've carried the legend onwards
Drink, play and be sick

God bless those crazy monks, who kept the water flowing
God bless those crazy monks, who kept the water flowing

Travelled the wide world over
Sampled Clarets rare and fine
Never sampled nothing quite like Buckfast

Buckfast Tonic Wine
Buckfast Tonic Wine

From the 1 in 12 in Bradford
to the Button in Brixton town
Drank so many Buckfast
our heads spun round and around

To the Warzone Centre Belfast
where the locals join the fun
To the Temple Bar in Dublin
we got pissed in every one

God bless those crazy monks, who kept the water flowing

Travelled the wide world over
Sampled Clarets rare and fine
Never sampled nothing quite like Buckfast

Cheap wine is hit or miss. The best wine I have ever had in my life is actually produced in Iowa. I was completely blown away by how smooth and tasty it was. I do not know what it cost, because it was a gift from someone at a NYE party we had, guessing $10-14.
