Third Week in April Weirdness

Postby friendlyskies » Thu Apr 19, 2007 12:33 pm

So the third week in April includes the original US "Patriot's Day" April 19, Hitler's birthday April 20, the Columbine Massacre April 20, the Oklahoma City Bombing April 19, the Waco Massacre was this week, and now it's the anniversary of whatever they'll start calling the Va Tech murders. Oh yeah, it's also National Smoke Marijuana All Day day April 20, and Earth Day April 22. Even the seemingly benign concepts of patriotism, dope smoking and global ecosystems management are the sources of serious conflict lately (Patriot Act vs. Bill of Rights, stoners vs. Big Pharmaceutical, Team Gore vs. Team SUV), what's up?

Spring fever?

What I really want to know is where my god damned global warming is.

It's freaking freezing here!

Late April and it still feels like winter. Al Gore has ripped me off yet again!

SRR: You're telling me. I lost three pepper plants and an eggplant to that last freeze. Heck, I was almost ready to buy a Ford Exploder with a "Support Our Troops By Using More Gas" bumpersticker, but then New York and New Jersey flooded. It's a quandry.

Don't forget about a couple of large genocides.

Rwanda started in early April, not quite the third week.

Cambodia's Khmer Rouge started their run in April, I think April 17th.

It's a simple case of spring fever.

Hey, it's also General Colon Powell's birthday tomorrow. Should we send anti-aircraft missiles to the Iranians, then lie about it, to celebrate? Or maybe we can tell the UN where to find the next batch of WMDs!

From Wikipedia for April 20:

1775 - American Revolutionary War: the siege of Boston begins
1792 - France declares war on Austria, the beginning of French Revolutionary Wars.
1861 - American Civil War: Robert E. Lee resigns his commission in the United States Army in order to command the forces of the state of Virginia.
1902 - Pierre and Marie Curie refine radium chloride.
1914 - Seventeen men, women, and children die in the Ludlow Massacre during a bitter Colorado coal-miner's strike.
1961 - Failure of the Bay of Pigs Invasion of US troops against Cuba.
1985 - ATF raid on The Covenant, The Sword, and the Arm of the Lord compound in northern Arkansas.
