What do the Led Zeppelin runes mean?

Postby tlcfj40 » Mon May 14, 2007 5:32 am

As a longtime fan of Led Zeppelin, I've heard and read about the many different meanings of their runes. What is the Tin Foil Hat's perspective on these?

Its ancient nordic instructions for Robert Plant to stick out his sweaty, white belly while singing to await the alien ultrasound so that they may monitor the spawn that dwells within.

Jimmy Page got into alot of dangerous occult shit, as I'm sure you know. They say his aura eventually became so dark that it drove him to become a recluse, and even if walking the streets of London he sustains an invisible presence.

But later on in career of the band Page's meanderings into the occult, living in Crowley's castle for christs sake and owning the worlds largest collection of crowleyana, is said to have seriously fucked up Robert Plant. Made him vulnerable and allegedly scewed up his psyche, some say deranged his soul.

As i understand it, a rune was chosen by each member of the band. Circle mandala patterns are protective or 'sealed'. And trinity of 3 points invoke complete (and controled) manifestation, much as 3 pnts define a plane.

The 3rd rune of 3 overlapping circles, was that Bonham's? Interesting that it resembles a skull where circles overlap. Was unwise of Plant to choose Aegyptian Toth feather symbol representing truth, in my opinion, set himself up for more then he could cope with. If it was me I'd have chosen a turtle instead, symbol of enduring longevity and eternal progress, ballance and harmony even of earth itself.

And in Page's "ZOSO" I see a number 7 with hook attached. The curve suggests delving beyond and then appears to be pushing what could be seen as some kinda ship. And then an S with line through it above, or S/I combined and then capped or anchored at each end..... nothin scarey. In fact, the S/I is reminiscent to symbol of Cagliostro considered the most benevolent occultist of his era.

Great Band though, first to delve into black arts. Lyrics of "Stairway to Heaven" completely debunk the Christian view of an afterlife adding a little old fashioned pagan philosophy into the mix....... welcoming "sprinklings of the may queen" and sayin "if there's a bustle - dont be a lawman." IOW, psyche realms do not adhere to manmade rules.

tlcfj, i'd recommend led zepp music to everybody and especially the lyrics. Easily the most literate rock'n roll black arts stuff thats ever been done. Makes today's heavy metal forgeries sound like children's stuff in my opinion, altogether too damned obvious.

Of course what nobody's sayin is: There's helluva lot of *positive* black arts magicians in the world today, debunking the bullshit and providing a more useful and clinical approach to spirituality in general. Evangelical types, Christian "do-gooders" and fanatical religious types are generally civilization's worst enemies.

I'd heard and read many things about Page's fascination (or obsession) with the occult. One of the lore I'd heard was that he found fresh blood on the walls of Crowley's home.

There is a funny tale about the rune comprising the three circles, I'd heard it was derived from the water rings left on a table by bottles of lager. And the other was that it bore a resemblance to the logo of an ale/lager in Europe.

On another note, at one point, I'd seriously considered getting these tattooed on me, but after some thought, I backed out on it.

lyrics are a little messed up

Postby denise » Tue May 15, 2007 1:12 am

i think it's "spring clean for the may queen" and "bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now". anyway, led zeppelin was the first concert i attended. (after styx but there was no avoiding them at that time so it doesn't count) last minute, $12 in the last row of the chicago stadium, i was 13 years old, blah blah blah. anyway...

i saw the movie of this tour a few years later at the theater:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075244/

and i believe there were segments by each of the bandmembers featuring their individual symbols and lives. this must have been after houses of the holy was released. anyway, i remember bonzo was into cars. plant's section featured his family, a beautiful hispanic looking woman with dark curly hair, and their son and daughter who inherited daddy's locks. anyway, i'd heard later his young son had died in a car accident and he and his wife had divorced. i'm sure that doesn't do much for a person's state of mind.

anyway, a great band i still listen to pretty frequently, though not as much as i did in high school.

They´re a doorway... essentially, to where?

I´ve only discerned vast rumors within lyrics
And the player-notes of one Jimmy Page but,
Comrades, believe me, when I warn ye never
To walk the road I now stand upon.. profound!

Profound Darkness!
Profound Darkness!
Shun the PATH of..

The EVIL ONE!

however, i can distinctly differenciate the difference betwixt the sacred and the profane.

it is my hope that you can still do the same.

For as much darkness a person has in his soul there is just as much compassion....the more you have of one,the more you have of the other.

Strange, I heard the Page claimed that he didn't worship the devil. And look where it got the band into.
I believe in the beat, so party hard.

Haint the same thing - Black Arts and "Devil worship"

In fact alligning black magic with satanism and devil worship is easily the greatest misunderstood misnomer even among so-called highly schooled occultists and initiates today. Simply put so that even those deemed by Denise as "profane" might understand it - black arts stuff covers animism, manipulation of matter and geomancy too. For example, Yori Geller bending spoons is pure black arts craft as was the work Harry Houdini too. And so is India coal walkers stepping on embers without getting burnt. Niether satanism nor devil worship has anything to do with it.
