For atheists with a God complex

Postby Sri Lanky » Sat Jan 12, 2008 10:24 pm

When you get up in the morning I want you to face the east and pull the sun up over the horizon then,in the evening,I want you to face the west and push the sun down until it's beyond the horizon.

Accomplish this 5 times and ye shall be deemed God.....enough of a God to say there is no God.

Oh, man I thought this was supposed to be about a God who has an atheist complex. I'll tell you - it's more confusing having dyslexia than you might think.

It's more about a God's God than anything else.

I wake up to a self rising sun, one that rises over the wicked and the good, it sets in the exact self-same way. I could care less about the mechanics of the universe and its relation to god. You don't need god to have a sun rise, or a humble and fulfilling life, or peace.

I've never understood "I could care less" in that context.

Poor semantic execution on my part. Yes I could not care less. Is that a double negative?

Yeah, it's a double negative, but one of those rare cases in which it is impossible to create the same meaning by expressing it in the positive. "I could care more" doesn't rule out the idea that you at least care a little bit, and therefore, indeed, could care less.

Sorry -- didn't mean to hijack the thread.

I have a feeling my future tongue will be mandarin, especially if I am ever to understand what the hell the GF's relatives are going on about.

good luck with that. my korean mother-in-law spoke english and i still had a hard time understanding what she was saying most of the time. of course, she had the added language skill of not understanding a word of english whenever it suited her. smart lady.

D's relatives are wonderful people. I love the fact that you can never have a disagreement or harsh word when no one understands what the other is saying. The last 4 years of holidays have been wonderfully stress free affairs. Although the traditional xmas squid takes some getting used to.

You don't need you to have a sun rise or peace either.

There is no you to need you.
