DHS sez recession fueling right wing extremists

Postby LechoZX » Wed Apr 15, 2009 5:02 pm

Funny thing about this report is that it is probably true but I can easily see certain types saying "Look this is the begining of the groundwork to crack down on us and guns".

By Jane Sutton Jane Sutton – Tue Apr 14, 3:56 pm ET
MIAMI (Reuters) – Right-wing extremists in the United States are gaining new recruits by exploiting fears about the economy and the election of the first black U.S. president, the Department of Homeland Security warned in a report to law enforcement officials.

The April 7 report, which Reuters and other news media obtained on Tuesday, said such fears were driving a resurgence in "recruitment and radicalization activity" by white supremacist groups, antigovernment extremists and militia movements. It did not identify any by name.

DHS had no specific information about pending violence and said threats had so far been "largely rhetorical."

But it warned that home foreclosures, unemployment and other consequences of the economic recession "could create a fertile recruiting environment for right-wing extremists."

"To the extent that these factors persist, right-wing extremism is likely to grow in strength," DHS said.

The report warned that military veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with combat skills could be recruitment targets, especially those having trouble finding jobs or fitting back into civilian society.

The department "is concerned that right-wing extremists will attempt to recruit and radicalize returning veterans in order to boost their violent capabilities," the report said.

DHS spokeswoman Sara Kuban said on Tuesday the report was one of an ongoing series of threat assessments aimed at "a greater understanding of violent radicalization in the U.S."

A similar assessment of left-wing radicals completed in January was distributed to federal, state and local police agencies at that time.

"These assessments are done all the time, this is nothing unusual," Kuban said.

The Department of Homeland Security was formed in response to the September 11 attacks of 2001 and has focused largely on threats from Islamist extremists.

The report said domestic right-wing terrorist groups grew during the economic recession of the early 1990s but subsided as the economy improved.

Government scrutiny disrupted violent plots following the April 1995 bombing of a federal building in Oklahoma City by Army veteran Timothy McVeigh which killed 168 people.

LONE WOLVES

"Despite similarities to the climate of the 1990s, the threat posed by lone wolves and small terrorist cells is more pronounced than in past years," the report said.

The Internet has made it easier to locate specific targets, communicate with like-minded people and find information on bombs and weapons, it said.

Extremist groups are preying on fears that President Barack Obama, the first African American U.S. president, would restrict gun ownership, boost immigration and expand social programs for minorities, the report said.

It said such groups were also exploiting anti-Semitic sentiment with accusations that "a cabal of Jewish financial elites" had conspired to collapse the economy.

"This trend is likely to accelerate if the economy is perceived to worsen," the report said.

Talk about your collective subconscious.....I had a conversation this morning with my father, who lives in Texas, and he mentioned that there is a real concern about these so-called right-wing militia. He basically writes them off as a bunch of fucked up rednecks....probly the same people who want to secede from the US. Good luck taking on the government, assholes.

The hilarious thing about this report is that returning vets are being recruited.... but by streetgangs which...gasp....aren't white, right wing neo nazis.

But, that isn't sexy and/or the right demographic to pick on right now so damn the facts. Rather than focus on what's actually happening right now, let's spend our resources on what might happen.

The KKK isn't resurgent. Not even close. There is however, a REAL threat with streetgangs having members get combat training in Iraq/Afghanistan and coming back to impliment those skills.

But no...Let's worry about shit that isn't happening.

I think the real threat is America's addiction to cocaine because that is what fuels the streetgangs and any power they have. Who supplies the streetgangs BTW?

Has to be right wing neo-nazi veterans. It's the only thing that makes sense.

Well,I hate to shine your apple but many biker thugs are neo-nazi veterans and is it a coincidence that biker gangs are getting hammered right now?

The bulk of illegal arms trafficking is done by outlaw biker gangs which also has recruited heavily from white-supremacist groups. It makes sense for them to do that. 1] These individuals are already violent and 2]Gangs tend to be based on ethnicity.

Nothing personal, but mopping up after bikers slaughtering each other doesn't make you an expert on them. You're also all over the place. One minute you're talking drugs, now it's on to arms smuggling.

1)Drugs. The MAJORITY of shit coming into the US in regards to illicit drugs and motorcycle clubs is run by:
a)Mexican Mafia, in connection with the Vagos, Bandidos, and Outlaws. None of which are even remotely neo-nazi, white, or right wing for that matter.
b)Yes, there are elements of certin clubs that attract racist scumbags, and yes they do deal. But you're talking about shit that's already in the US (they get it from their contacts with the above mentioned clubs), and it's nowhere on their scale.

2)Arms. The bulk of illegal arms trafficking isn't done by motorcycle clubs, or neo-nazi groups for that matter. Not even remotely. Jesus...Where do you get this shit?

All I know is that in Canada this is true and if you look at what's happening worldwide,an international crackdown on outlaw biker gangs and the incredible amount of violence associated with them,I think that we are seeing how successful these gangs were able to conceal their activities(until recently).

The government is getting tired of cutting deals with them and now wants to show who's in charge. In Quebec the Hells were close to taking over the government--this is the power of cocaine. Also the cartels themselves are getting sick of dealing with them. The Hells will routinely assassinate Colombians and other foreign nationals if they don't deal exclusively with them.

There is an individual,a leader of a white supremacist group, being used as bait by the police at this very moment in Manitoba. There is a very powerful tie between the Chritian Identity Movement and biker gangs.

The Mexicans and other non-white organized groups?-----puppets.

Then maybe you shouldn't pretend to speak with authority about it as it relates to the subject of the thread.

Your point? This routinely happens every 5 years or so. What you're seeing now is govt. acting on years of building up a case. We'll see this exact same crackdown in another 5 years. Cartels getting sick of dealing with them? LMFAO...Who do you think moves their shit?

You're about 10 years too late regarding Christian Identity, and no, they never affiliated with "biker gangs" to the point where it even concerned law enforcement.

Tinfoil hat cafe indeed..

Dude.... This "right wing extremism" shit comes up every time the left is in power. They're pumping McVeigh's bones for fuck sake. Really, you ninnies are starting to sound like the neocons with their, "there's a moooslim under every bed!" bullshit.

Oh, and for the grossly misinformed, the last time someone tried this shit, it failed miserably.

I worked for US Customs and Border protection on the border with Canada! I always love it when Canadians speak as if they are US citizens with skin in our Game. I did leave it in Oct.08 the Gov agencies micromanage too much . I believe there will be overzealous enforcement occurring if it wasn't put out . In the end Canadians should worry about their socialist hell of a country . We'll deal with trying to keep ours from experiencing the same loss of freedoms they have now! Oh yeah all of us vets aren't neo Nazi's FUCKSTICK!

It doesn't appear to be as one-sided as some folks are making it out to be.

Seems reasonable.

But it warned that home foreclosures, unemployment and other consequences of the economic recession "could create a fertile recruiting environment for right-wing extremists."

"To the extent that these factors persist, right-wing extremism is likely to grow in strength," DHS said.

History seems to bear this out. Fascism tends to grow in strength when economies are bad.

The report warned that military veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with combat skills could be recruitment targets, especially those having trouble finding jobs or fitting back into civilian society.

Again, history seems to bear this one out too. While the majority of WWI veterans went on to be regular folks, a few of them including a couple of combat-experienced corporals in Italy and Germany were recruited into right-wing extremism. The civil war in the US produced fellows who became bandits like Jesse James and some WWII veterans founded outlaw motorcycle clubs. That returning veterans would be targets for recruitment by criminal gangs or violent political groups doesn't seem beyond the realm of possibility at all. It most likely would be a small minority that would be sucessfully recruited, but I see no reason to think that they would not be targeted for recruitment at all.

Think about it. If I was a political extremist, the leader of a street gang, a mafioso, a loanshark or involved in any other occupation where violence is an accepted business practice, I would seek to recruit people to my group that are trained and practiced in the efficient application of violence. If I was a bookie looking to employ a collector, I wouldn't interview kids out of university with liberal arts degrees, I would look for physically imposing types who are used to violence like bikers, boxers, ex-convicts, soldiers or any other types that are knowledgeable and practiced in the use of violence. If there is surplus of people with the skills I need who happen to feel disenfranchised due to the economy or poltics, so much the better. It's simple logic, and this is a government memo, not the start of a new COINTELPRO.

Right wing extremists and white supremacists on the rise? I'd better stock up on guns and ammo.
I guess I really do need that Glock.
I would think that the concern would be more what to do when those vets with inner city gang tats come home.
Be nice to me. I'm a rug muncher.

My point is that the vets coming back who already have ties with outlaw biker gangs or are going to be recruited by these biker clubs have the capacity to much greater harm to society as a whole than poor inner city black or latino kids imprisoned within those concrete walls.

Q's point is to defend the integrity of the white race regardless of criminal intent.
