Skeptics and psi

The 4 stages:

Stage 1 -- skeptics confidently proclaim idea is impossible
Stage 2 -- skeptics reluctantly concede idea is possible
Stage 3 -- the mainstream realizes idea is important and its effects more pervasive than previously imagined
Stage 4 -- the same skeptics begin to proclaim that THEY THOUGHT OF IT FIRST

The late Carl Sagan ( who shared his namesake with Jung) was a piercing skeptic trying desperately to debunk anything to do with psychic phenomena yet in one of his paragraphs he states:

At the time of writing there are three claims in the ESP field which,in my opinion, deserve serious study: (1) that by thought alone humans can (barely) affect random number generators in computers; (2) that people under mild sensory deprivation can recieve thoughts or images "projected" at them; and (3) that young children sometimes report the details of a previous life, which upon checking turn out to be accurate and which they could not have known about in any other way than reincarnation.

This tells me that Sagan had psychic experiences himself and subjected himself to intense scrutiny due to his own educational prejudice. In the end he could not deny any longer. No longer afraid of being ridiculed.

The above is also a classic shift from stage 1 to stage 2. 100 years from now (maybe less) scientific evidence of psychic phenomena will be...well...phenomenal. But in the end we don't need science to prove or justify direct experience. Which is why some people ditch science or just never believed in anything.
