Multi-national proxy war in Syria: is it a big deal?

Russia giving (at least) air power for Assad, Assad gaining ground in the north. Turkey, US, and some European buddies extending airstrips, and building bases. Russia has one base, and is supposed to be working on another. Everyone manipulating the Kurds and whoever else is available.

How big will this get?

The margin of possibilities is pretty wide; from angry fizzle to The Big One. But that's always the case one way or the other, although the leadership of the 'free' world seems unusually weak and corrupt in the face of multi-faceted threats. Not surprising given the pond life that is pulled into politics.

Anyone sensible anywhere who doesn't believe in the tooth fairy (ie. that the state will protect them) should always maintain universal cash (gold et al), locate sensibly but still be prepared to move.
