Ditto.
I like my watches nice and simple. I want to see big figures, the date and even day and it should have a light. I don't wear a watch to pose with and too many fancy dials confuse me. I don't need a status symbol.
I'm not really a proper reporter, due to the chronic lack of discipline, negligible attention span, and a certain juvenile difficulty taking serious things seriously.

Still don't wear one but I am thinking of getting "Your Watch Here" tattooed on my wrist.

Pulsar SOLAR titanium. Coming up to ten years all round use. Day/Night, Summer/Winter, Wet/Dry, Dust /Mud, North/South or East/West. Still going strong . No fancy gadgets or third hands. Glows in the dark and powered by light. No batteries, no winding. Doesn't lose a tick.

Bought for me by my mum as a birthday present, the week after my dad died, with the money that was in his wallet. A gift from beyond !

It goes everywhere and will be on my wrist when I eventually trip over the stick.

I spoke too soon. Bloody Sov crap has just given up on me.

I like the sound of Caliban's watch, mainly because of the story. Have you got a picture of the watch or the equivalent?

Prospero not Caliban but my personal favourite - better than any Holy Book I've ever read

These our actors,
As I foretold you, were all spirits, and
Are melted into air, into thin air,
And, like the baseless fabric of vision,
The cloud-capped towers, the gorgeous palaces,
The solemn temples, the great globe itself,
Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve
And, like this insubstantial pageant faded,
Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff
As dreams are made on, and our little life
Is rounded with sleep.

Indeed.

Knowing how I loved my books
he furnished me, from mine own library
with volumes prized beyond my dukedom.

That hangs above my desk in my library. Shakespeare would be top of my list for people to talk shit with when drunk. He knew the minds of men. He would have been popular on here. Some of the people here would have given him a few more classics !

Ill sort out a photy of my watch.

Captain Koons, Pulp Fiction: The way your dad looked at it, this watch was your birthright. He'd be damned if any slopes gonna put their greasy yellow hands on his boy's birthright, so he hid it, in the one place he knew he could hide something: his ass. Five long years, he wore this watch up his ass. Then when he died of dysentery, he gave me the watch. I hid this uncomfortable piece of metal up my ass for two years. Then, after seven years, I was sent home to my family. And now, little man, I give the watch to you.

Well, not quite THAT extreme but you get the point. I was away when my dad went for some tests as he had not been well for some time having had several minor strokes and increasing chest problems. I phoned them to be told that my dads specialist had given him twelve to eighteen months due to mesothelioma (asbestos cancer in his lungs). I flew home and went to stay with them. It was as if my dad was holding out until I got home because the next day he had a massive stroke. My mum and I nursed him for six days until he died, four days before my birthday. I had bought the watch already but my mum thought it right that it should be a gift from dad so gave me the money out of his wallet to pay for it.

The black background is a photo voltaic plate, the same as they use in solar panels now, because it works almost as well with any light as with sunlight.

Don't lose that watch!

Thanks for the story and for the photy- hits many a nerve with me - I will look out for one of these.

Photy - haven't heard that for a while. My drinks mat is telling me "Dinnae fash yersel" and I always used to be told not to tak a scunner sae easy.

I picked 'photy' up from a Scottish friend of the family when I was a kid and have used it ever since, especially as unless I concentrate when I type photo or photograph - I almost always miss out the second 'o' when I type it. One of those bizarre mental blocks. ... or alzheimers

I replaced the rubber strap with a nylon, one piece, Maratec strap in Airborne Maroon.

my watch selection

Postby mapandcompass » Sun Jul 01, 2007 9:59 pm

Fossil Speedway Chronograph or the Wenger Swiss Military Dive Watch... both have taken a beating and still look pretty good. It just seems silly to me to drop more than $150 on a timepiece...

On the trail or during travel, I usually wear for a lighter, cheaper, less aesthetically pleasing digital watch. It keeps good time, gives me a timer, alarm clock, stopwatch and calendar all at once... I can't complain. Mine is made by Armitron and is about 4 years old. It ain't pretty anymore, but it's still my favorite for travel...
