Spyderco is a fine knife for urban environments in the 1st world – I carried the Police model back in the day. I also bent one and snapped the tip of another – good knife – great for cutting someone (?) - not good for heavy utility use. I wouldn’t carry one into the woods or if I was going to use it to pry wooden crates open

for prying crates ide go for a knife made out of carbon steel rather than something like vg-10 stainless steel, most stainless steels are very hard but brittle, carbon gives you lateral strength without sacrificing edge holding ability,my 1st choice would be a tops knife made out of 1095 carbon steel,or go old school and get a ka-bar knife, spyderco is a urban style knife but for outdoor work i go for coldsteel, the tips on my el hombre never break and i use it for light prying, its fully serrated so its great for cutting rope, ive had it for about 8 years without lock failure ,tops is what im looking at now,now if you want a badass knife check out http://www.darkopsknives.com/cgistore/s ... =1&cart_id they have great folders and fixed blades plus an awesome looking auto, steep price but you get what you pay for and swiss army sucks goat balls, friend has one and i will probaly get a darkops knife soon

I think that lightstalker was referring to folding knives, but the k-bar is probably one of the best outdoor knifes out there.

I have pried crates open and cut through thick Dell cardboard server boxes with my CRKT M16-14T everyday for a year

It is just a dif school of thought. I was taught that a knife is for cutting, and if you need a pry bar you should go and get something like A PRY BAR. This kind of reminds me of the Simpsons where Homer gets a gun and starts doing everything with it (truning off the light, using it to open his beer, turning on the TV, etc, etc, you get my point.) Like I said I know that there are better, stronger, sharper, etc blades out there, but for the money it is a good knife. I have used it to skin many a deer, cow, pig, etc.

Most people rarely ever click the 4WD button on their SUV’s – but its nice to know its there just in case you need it

And I have skinned quite a few Boar with my CRKT M16-14T

And my dad can beat up your dad

CRKT M16-14Z, Gerber Gator and Leatherman (ok, not a knife...) are always on me.

In the field KBAR, added to that list.

Is that the one with the curved blade?

K-Bar – great knife, file off the top guard and thin up the grip a little = great knife for under 40 bucks

I use one of these for work, and it's usually on my belt.
<img src="http://home.comcast.net/~massbackwards/utilityknife.jpg">
when I've had more expensive knives, I've lost or broken them, hence the disposable blade.
and when I need a prybar, screwdriver, or whatever I use a prybar screwdriver or whatever.
but I'm about to get my EMT Cert, and I'm going to get a switchblade just because I can.

The CRKT? No, it's the tanto blade.

The K-BAR I have was my grandfather's issue in WW2. Gave it to me the day I graduated SOI (along with his issue 1911 with the EGA carved in the grips) with the order that I actually use it. Said if he found out it was sitting in a glass case he'd kick my ass and take it from me, and he would have. I'll probably use it a few more years then retire it. (I've kept the original sheath locked away in the gun safe.)

I picked up this little cutie as a Christmas present for myself. It was prolly too much to spend on a knife, but it's lightweight, feels great in my hand, and isn't an eyesore like so many knives I see in the catalogs. If I don't lose it first, I can give it to the granddaughter I'll never have.

james, i got the CRKT M16-14T and this is one fine piece of sabre, but will it lock closed? at any rate, it is very nice, opens very fast, tougher than your first date and is top quality. i don't think it is a knife for everyone in every situation...but even priced as high as it is...i picked mine up for 90 USD...it is a welcome addition. next i think i will follow khalampre's recommendation and get a spyderco in the config i need...
where are you going? why don't you walk the wheel with us? what is the matter my american friend? what has upset you?
