And she said, no, apparently normal people do buy such incredibly stupid, pointlessly extravagant consumer goods.

Like yachts (there's my sly dig :)?

I mean it's not like you're Captain Ahab and need it to make your living hunting white whales.

I suppose this type of thing only happens in America right?

No people in other countries engage in this behaviour, right?

As an aside, the Queen's house always seemed a bit extravagant for my tastes. In fact, the whole concept of nobility always seemed incredibly stupid and pointlessly extravagant to me, but I guess it works for "you people".

Not like yachts at all. At least they're fit for purpose. It's crazy to use cashmere for socks, because it's not durable enough. Jumpers or coats or scarves, fine. Glove linings, even. But not socks. And all that hand washing! Doesn't bear thinking about.

Please note:
the Ivy (a famously exclusive restaurant in London), where we ate surrounded by celebs no doubt all wearing their everyday cashmere socks.

The difference being that she said cashmere socks were quite normal. At least in Britain, as far as I'm aware, you'd have to be too rich and stupid for your own good (and have someone to do your washing) to consider buying such an absurdity.

Not for me, mate. Something else we agree on.
Shes never interfered with me. I have no complaints about her.
Same here.
Mega ditto.
I met her once and I found her to be a nice lady. Not kookey in any way.
Penta has always been gracious, kind and very sane in all my interactions with her.

I have had the same $20 Eagle Creek wallet in my back pocket since 1999.

It is not fashionable at all. It doesn't look nice. In fact you look like an ugly tightwad pulling it out of your pants. But that is a little over $2 a year so far of wallety goodness.

I have one made by Maxpedition. Its a little on the "tactical" side, which I don't like. But the damn thing is very durable and has lasted me a long time. I'm hard on wallets.

Just a note on the SpecOps Jr. I used to buy cheap wallets at home and they fell apart after a month of sliding in and out of my back pocket at the bar. I bought my SpecOps Jr in a PX in Iraq in 2004. I've booted, dropped, thrown, batted, lost/found, driven over, and soaked in beer the little blighter and it hasn't as much as a stitch coming loose.

And mocking people talking gear in the gear forum is G.A.Y.

It's true, cashmere socks are ridiculous for wearing out so quickly, but they are awfully warm while they last.

Stainless steal wallet:
Believe it or not very soft to the touch and so far durable and probably have the benefit of killing the signal of any RFID enabled cards:

or go for the old stand by of duct tape:

I have both but use the stainless the most.
