Body armour (stab vests etc)

Postby Bulletproof » Wed Aug 12, 2009 2:50 pm

Hi... I'm Tom (newbie so please be gentle)

As you can see from my sig I sell bullet proof vests and stab vests, I am going to start shipping worldwide and wanted to know if you would consider buying from an oversees supplier or would you stay 'more local'?

Also...What sort of thing would you be looking for if you were going to travel, maximum protection or lightweight?

thanks in adv...

Tom

note: If you have any questions about body armour or even the UK police or equipment please feel free to ask.

I didn't know there was such a thing.

Ha! Cheers guys... don't you know that everything is bullet proof.... from far enough away :)

Which reminds me of this vid (you might have seen it) where the guy shoots his mate point blank and the vest fails!

(sorry if it's an old one)

A beer holder would be nice. And a secret stash pocket for my stash would be nice too. A nice bright shade of purple would make for a nice colour.

Tom,your first mistake was coming here with a genuine and reasonable question.

I gave up on asking genuine and reasonable questions on the flag shortly after the Boer war finished. (A question about General Smuts I believe - should have seen the porn sites that got posted for that one)

Back on topic, I think the problem you might face with overseas sales is competitive pricing abroad (wherever that may be) because of exchange rates, weight for shipping, customs and excise duties etc.etc.

Biggest problem with vests is bringing em through countries like Jordan or Dubai and having them taken out of your luggage as "military equipment", second biggest problem is weight. Perhaps if you set up a rental in Kabul and Baggers that would get your gear paid for many times over. The Gandamak rents vietnam era shit (my favorite cuz the only thing it stops is your internal cooling system from functioning)

Or perhaps sell the fabric vest and rent the plates and filler in country.

where's the zipper-flap on the CORDURA Kevlar Bullet Proof Vest?
...is that why it's so cheap, the 'get shot in the zipper and die' discount?
I know the law. And I have spent my entire life in its flagrant disregard.

Disclaimer: I'm still in the position where my body armor is given to me, so I may not be the best authority on the Flag for this. That being said, I'm not sure it's something I would buy online or through a catalog, period. So much of what drives a guy to buy kit like that is dependent on shooter's preference. Something you can only get a feel for by actually putting it on and using it.
RYP had a good idea about the rental system. Enough of the civvies, reporters, TCNs, etc walk around wearing garbage that it just might be a solid business idea.

I buy from US suppliers, no offence for our overseas dealers but shipping and BS with customs make it not worth buying overseas when I know 100% that when I order for the states I will get my gear.

My suggestion for you is to get some sales reps (brits or Americans) that are working as Civilian Contractors in the Middle East
