Looking for a Night Vision Optic

Postby KGL » Wed Dec 16, 2009 3:38 pm

Anyone have a good night vision optic they can recommend? I can only afford around $500, which probably won't even buy a Gen2... so it looks like a Gen1 is the only option for my budget. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

A bright ass light is around $100

$500 will buy you something G1 even at Cabela's I think.

I guess I should have been specific... Maybe I should have asked if anyone owned a Gen1 NV that they were happy with. I found quite a few for under $500. But I was wondering whether the NV quality of a Gen1 was even worth it.

The deluxe package of the new Call of Duty game comes with a set of NOD's that no shit work pretty well. Maybe 150$ for the whole package, feel free to send the game to me if you don't want it.

What range, environment, target, climatic conditions?

Moonlit night, shooting pigs in the open from a high seat and Gen 1 can do that.

But really, Gen 1 is not worth the candle.

Range: <100 yds. Environment: Wooded & Meadow. Target: None at the present. Climatic Conditions: -30 to 80 F.

I wouldn't shoot the pigs because they help keep the biogas digester running. I basically want to use them for checking on the animals at the homestead without having to blast the beacon.

Go for Gen 1 but don't expect much on nights without starlight or moonlight available or be able to see into anything other than the lightest of brush covering. It'll be be better than nothing.
