Compact camera: Help needed.

My gf needs a good compact camera WITH A VIEWFINDER. ASAP.
All I know is my (Dinosaur) D100 & most folks I know have SLR's.

Any suggestions much appreciated
Thanks.

Canon G10. It's idiot proof and a lot of pros love them. Used it and loved it.

The G11 is now shipping...

Or there is also the SX20 IS which may be a bit too large.

As you say the G10/11 look very good for a compact. The SX20 is a tad large.

She wants it for travel, landscapes, family, everything really.
The G11 has the hinged screen & that's not necessary, she says.
I'm pushing for her to buy the G10 (She's paying) & she can leave (& forget) it in my go bag, for safe keeping :^)

Thanks for the prompt replies guys.

You can also get great micro 4/3 cameras such as the Olympus EP-1 if she likes slr's and the options they provide.

Thanks Dabbi but.....
She doesn't like the lines of the add on viewfinder.
The G10 is the front runner.

She buys clothes a darn sight faster that cameras.

G10. However, the G9 has color video and G11 has a couple of gizmos that are different, like LCD display that can be altered in terms of where to look it..

I'm quite happy with my G10...have shot somewhere between 15-20k and has been flawless and if you're in some funky areas it can take some abuse.

The long and short of the G series is that you can keep up with the big boys, but have portability.

There is an article where this pro photographer compares his Hasselblad to his G10...just saying.

The SD1200 IS also has a viewfinder... It's very much pocket size, the only things flatter are the pancake cameras like the Nikon Coolpix S60 and similar.

That's like comparing a V8 to a four cylinder. No comparison.

I have a G9, its ok so long as you don't use it above 400 ISO, plus it has HD video, which the G10 and G11 does not have. My point and shoot now is a Ricoh GRIII.
$150- 200 bucks more than a G11, but worth it in my opinion. The only drawback is no viewfinder, however Ricoh do make an external optical viewfinder that sits on top of the hot shoe.

It was after I left Singapore that she, not me, bought a G11.
I don't expect to see her or the camera for a few months, but this episode has wetted my appetite to get a smaller camera to use when my D100 is not with me.

I like the Canon G11 & the Ricohe GR111.

Lightstalker. That viewfinder for the Ricoh GRIII is about US$430 or more. What's that all about?

$430 ??!!!. I didnt think it was that much. Better off going with a Voigtlander:
